Advice for a Wannabe Fighter

Taller, lankier guys tend to not do so well at Judo or Wrestling in my experience as there center of gravity is a little high, but as far as striking goes having long reach is always an asset. It is very much up to just developing your own style in each art, and how well your instructor/Coach/Kru/Sensei knows how to help you develop that style. My only reccomendation on choosing the gyms from what you said is available, if you decide you want to do Kick Boxing, just do Muay Thai instead. Theres no point training Kick Boxing if you can do Muay Thai instead.

imo, endurance is the most important aspect. You can have all the strength in world but when you are gassed it doesn’t matter.

Don’t train like a body builder if you want to be a fighter.

Sprints, hill sprints, jump rope, plyometrics… explosive excercises are what you need.

With the weights, concentrate on compound lifts. My favorites for fighting are

deadlift
snatch
squat
rows
lots of shoulder work.

You’ll need plenty of agility work too. Old school football drills should do the trick and be sure to stretch. If you aren’t flexable, you’ll tap in seconds.

BJJ is retarded, why don’t you focus on something that will actually teach you how to fight.

Please stop. We have decent threads here and don’t need your ridiculous cunt comments.

I like bjj but the guy has a point. Try to bjj with somebody at a bar where there are no rules and you’ll be carried out with no teeth, cracked ribs and lots of cuts. Competition fighting is sport only. Though it can help in real life situations, it shouldn’t be relied on.
