Adding Weight for Pull-ups

I’ve never once had a problem with a belt slipping from my waist. Just double it up and you are good to go.

I keep the DB above my knees in between my legs. No Problem doing that.

yes i get a great pump in my forearms so much so that i don’t need to train them much anymore. on my last set i’ll just hang there as long as i can and really get them burning - forearm workout over.

So you re more worried about a belt slipping off and the plate landing on the floor than the health of your neck?

I use a belt and have not had a problem. I never liked the db but it would be great to be able to drop it when I reach failure…

Might have to revisit this option.

you need to grow yourself a muscle ass - that way it will never slip off

Can just tie some nylon/stong rope round a normal training belt and hang the weight off that.

I bought a dip belt and use a dumbbell on it I have had zero problems. On a side note I used to hold the dumbell with my feet but one day I let it go and when I got down I twisted my ankle on the weight. Thats when I bought the dip belt.

Theres another way to add weight for pullups, besides using a weight vest:
Use a weight harness. Also works for dips. And you can make it yourself for a few bucks.

See here, under weight harness: Bodyweight

Hanging the weight around your neck sounds like an accident waiting to happen.

I don’t like using dumbbells between my feet or knees, as I always fear I’ll drop them on one of my cats. Also, getting my hands around the the bar with a dumbbell between my feet seems to be beyond my motoric skills.

So, I use a belt, a chain and plates. I let the weight hang behind my body though, not between my legs. So it’s not dangling in my way, and it seems just much more aligned when I pull myself up.

It makes me look a bit like an idiot, but I train at home and it works for me.

I use a weight belt with a chain looped throught the weight, then back through the belt, and clipped to the chain.

Never has slid off.

Once i tried to jump up to the bar though. I caught it right as the weight rose up, releasing slack, the belt flew open, caught my ankles on the way down and pulled me onto my ass. I felt real smart… lol

I’ve used the around the neck method for up to 90lbs. without a problem. It’s uncomfortable as hell, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

BTW - tried the trick of running the chain through the ring on the belt before attaching the plate and it worked great! It’s kinda scary because the plate is right on my crotch but it’s alright.

That’s the type of thing that makes you go “Duh! Why didn’t I think of that?”
