A Work in Progress

What is standard spacing for the grip on the bar?

I guess I don’t get it then. Maybe I’m over exaggerating the verticalness of my elbows?

I have really bendy hands and stuff(I’m weird) double-jointed I guess you can say…so it’s almost like I can’t help it! I was really good at playing the cello, because of my awesome wrist and finger action!(I know that didn’t sound good) :stuck_out_tongue: LOL!

Of course it doesn’t help when I see people doing squats a lot of different ways…

Look at her(ya, she’s hawt)

And look at these guys:

I don’t see them driving there elbows forward…

And let’s not forget about Ronnie:

Y’know - Meat’s got over 20 years in this pursuit, I think right now you should only be listening to him rather than any advice I might proffer. Too many cooks syndrome. If he doesn’t talk about it, it probably isn’t important.

haha, too many chiefs and not enough indians!
I gotcha!

But it’s still nice to know that everyone is willing to help! maybe I’ll ask MM if he can film an instructional squat, so we can see his advice in action!

Thanks Rain and Alisa-
Feedback is nice…
sometimes I get the urge to just let the log go. I understand I am not a “powerful,” woman in the sense that I am not an actual PL’er…but I think power can also come from working hard and getting results![/quote]

Hey Betty! I read and am inspired by your log! I am even less powerful than you, so to me you ARE Powerful!!!

So don’t stop posting your log.

Aww, thanks Chrys!!

I won’t stop if you won’t!

GOOD training today!!

  1. bb cuban rotation 3x12x20lb bb

2a) push press-2x8/6/4…85,90,95…90,95, 115!(most I’ve ever done, so I guess it’s a PR!) got a vid to document it, cause I knew I was going to try…I was so nervous, and my heart was pounding!!

2b) pull-up- 2x8/6/4- 115,110,105…110,105,100! getting stronger!!

3a) scott press- 3x8x25,30,35(trying to find the right weight!)
3b) v-grip pull down- 3x8x100
3c) saxon side bend- 3x8x15s(deceptively HARD!)

Just in case anyone is wondering the higher rep stuff is one giant set, with only 10s in between each exercise…then you get a nice rest at the end and go again!

CARDIO- INVERTALS!
Treadmill-working @9.0 incline-4.5 jog
recover @ 3.3 30/90 split

I started with just regular sprints, but they were too hard on the knees…running uphill is easier…who knew?! I also didn’t start the “work,” until the treadmill was done rising. Also, I just wanted to be DONE…so I when I caught my breath, I’d go again…about a minute between…but holy 275 calories burned!!

Great job! And that cardio looks like hell! You are doing awesome!

That’s a badass push press

Thank you Thank you!!

Have you considered Olympic lifting? Those PP’s were pretty good. Went up like butter.

Wow, thanks Skid!! Now that’s one thing I haven’t considered! I wouldn’t even know where to start…hmm…

It sure didn’t feel like butter, haha!..I was so nervous/excited it was hard to breath!

Saw your new vid of squats - it’s all coming together: those looked excellent. Head and chest were up, knees stayed out, good depth and your elbows, unlike mine, don’t wibble at all.

How the hell do you squat in the red-eyed AM though? You are dedimicated fer sher.

looking great! Maybe someday I will get brave enough to post some videos. Of course I would have to have something to video first, hahahahahahaha…my bf is going to be gone all summer for an internship, so I may need to send some to him so he can critique from afar.

I really enjoyed the little bit of push presses I have done.

Thanks Skid- you have the makings of an awesome cheerleader! I appreciate all your feedback!

I don’t train that early…I’m to the gym by 10am-ish…I do wake early with the birds and will probably get my morning started with some walking!

About the squats…yes, with a few tweaks I have been making a lot of progress! Now I would like to start adding in 5x3s to practice with heavier weight as I go.

Chrys- thanks!!

Today’s training-

1/side lying ext. rot…3x10x10lb db

2a- incline db press- 2x7/5/3…35,40,45…40,45,55FAIL! 50
I tried TWICE for those 55s…I think if I had assistance getting the first rep half way up I could do it!
2b- bb bent row-supinated- 2x7/5/3…95,105,115,105,115,135

3a-bb floor press- 3x10x115
3b- t-row- 3x10x70
3c- bent row to clavicle- 3x10x95

CARDIO
20min Treadmill Hills-Level 10

Bumped into PL guy…and he said he’d be happy to help out with tips for the big three…I’m not going to stalk him anymore though…haha…if he’s there when I am, great!

I wish there was anyone who even remotely looks like they do PLing at my gym!! I need to find out where they are all hiding out. (^:

ya, Steve the PL guy is pretty much unmistakeable as being a PL’er
I struck up a convo with him awhile back and asked if he had ever trained anyone(specifically a female) for a comp…he said YES, and when I was ready and if I wanted to, he could train me!! But who knows when that will be really…right now, I’m just having fun lifting, getting techniques down and getting stronger!

Training was pretty good today…the front squats/ghrs were somewhat comical…I was so tired and sweaty by then!

1-skipped power cleans Did Squats
1x10xbar 1x5x85 1x5x95 1x5x115x 1x3x135 1x2x155
I’m experimenting with different hand placing and getting the bar further down my traps

2- Conventional DL- 6x4—1x4x135 1x4x155 1x4x165 1x4x170
2x4x185

3a- Front squats- 3x8x75
3b- GHRs- 3xamrap…5.5.5

4- SL db DL- 3x8x30s–my balance on these are ridiculous…I have to go so slooooow…

boring boring CARDIO
20 min BIKE- level 11 hill intervals

Somewhere along dl’ing today, I must have done something wrong…I have a special feeling right in the middle of my low back…maybe it’s just the volume? I dunno…Videos to come!!

MinM you are tearing it up

good work…
kmc

ya, I’m tearing it up all right…I tore my back up real good, grrrr…

It seems like my form takes a hit past the 165 range…pisses me off! It doesn’t look that bad on vid, but maybe someone here can see what I can’t!

Seconded. She’s making the weights she uses look very light.

Ha! You are charming indeed!

Here are my vids from today:
95x3-squat

155x1-squat–you can see resident trainer/pro bb(former kickboxer), and my buddy Victor in the background there, haha…
took me awhile, cause I was getting nervous? I dunno…I can see that I had a forward lean slightly…I can’t be scared of the big weight!!

185x1-DL* I think I can see a slight rounding which would make sense as to why my back hurts* :frowning:

Nice!

I thought both squat and dl looked fine. If there was any rounding on the dl it was very slight. Could be doing both in one day was a might too much?

DL in particular looked light the way it went up! and the work you’ve done on the squat form is very apparent!
