Ok.I need help! lol…
I like heavy strength training too much to try anything else…but I also get bored using the same rep scheme over and over!
I’m still building my base of strength, and focusing on form, so I don’t think the RFFL program is for…maybe when I’ve only got that last 10-15 to lose perhaps. shrugs

Ok, I didn’t want to admit this but I weighed myself this morning, and according to the scale I have gained 8 pounds in two weeks…WTF!!! (throws tantrum)
I sat down and looked back over everything I’ve eaten, and I’ve had slips ups here and there(as do most) but honestly not enough for that kind of gain…Im hoping my scale is busted or Im just retaining a bunch of water?
I know I’ve gained though, because my inches have gone up as well…bummer…
So this is it, damnit…CARBS are now my enemy and I will treat them as lethal drugs…
I’m going to walk 4x/week, and continue with my weight training…And hopefully(gawd willing) with my diet in check I will regain control…
This is insane!

I’m sorry you going through this Especially when you’re working so hard.
Do you ever log your diet? Using fitday.com or something similar? It can be a great tool for seeing the breakdown of your diet and makes it easier to see where it needs work. You can log your diet there and make your profile public and get feedback on your diet too.
It might also make it easier to see what % of carbs or fats or proteins you respond best to because you have a record and you can see your better/ weaker performance coincides with your diet. I logged my diet there for a couple of weeks and found I was way underestimating the amount of carbs I was eating and over estimating the protein.
I had really good results doubling my protein, cutting my carbs, getting about half of my calories from fat and attempting to have only low GI foods (IMO the GI is hugely important for me for carbs). But since I think everyone responds differently I think is the value of the log. I don’t log anymore but I just used it to give me a better idea of what I can be eating to get more out of my food and get better habits.
I’ve heard good things about Paleo too, I think it’s low GI/low carb also.
I’ve virtually cut out all carbs accept for fruits, veggies and beans…and I eat all bran in the mornings… I’m following the ZONE diet if that helps. I need to start tracking my foods again though…I’ll have to check out this paleo diet…
I’m fairly certain of the areas that I need more consistency in: CARDIO!!! I’ve been so lazy when it comes to that…but I’ve been doing good the last couple weeks!
Tracy- that looks challenging enough, lol…I can’t honestly say that I would stick to it though…then again, you don’t know til you try! Not sure if that sort of training would work in my gym though…
And do you think it best to save that sort of training for the last 10 pounds or so?
I now have about 50 pounds I need to lose and desperately want off of me…gulP thats like carrying around 2 25lb dbs all over the place…ugh

It is super duper challenging! I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t have to wait for the last ten pounds, though, to do it. Use it until you stop seeing results, try something else, then go back to it. It’s also a program to add in for those of us who really really hate cardio.
Thanks Tracy- I’ll give it some thought…do you do this program at home or in a gym…I’d probably have to hoard a barbell and some dbs in order to make it work, since I’d be doing it at the gym…
I’ve been tracking my foods on fitday this week…I’ve hit all my numbers that I should, and I am averaging 1200-1300 cals a day…not bad, for not having as much carbs as I was used to!
I’m not as concerned about the calories as much as I am about getting the proper amounts of the good things per meal/snack…I’m really liking this ZONE diet, and can see eating like this indefinitely which is the reason it was designed!! I’m looking forward to seeing some results though!
I went on another walk this evening, and my legs felt so heavy…I think it’s the shoes, and I didn’t stretch, plus it was still 90 degrees!!~ That’s two for two this week, going for four, but an impending storm is supposed to hit Saturday, so I plan on doing some intervals after tomorrows training…
And as geeky as it sounds, I need to start wearing my pedometer again…I figure if I averaged 10,000 steps a day, that is 5 miles which is about 500 cals burned times 7 days is 3500 cals which is one pound!!
I got in over 10,000 steps today, and it wasn’t even a cardio day! woot!
Well, I did walk 10 min before/after training…speaking of training, I started a TBT program and LOVE IT!!
Will someone promise to slap me if I start talking of changing programs again? Thanks…

I think I’d eventually want to try the GBC program…how long do people typically survive this type of training? lol
Tracy- did you start off with the advanced version?[/quote]
I have a home gym, so I do all of my workouts in the basement.
My GBC workout consists of doing one exercise for 8 reps, rest 10 seconds, do the second exercise for 10 reps, rest 10 seconds, then do a third exercise for 12 reps, rest 2 minutes, then start it again for 3 sets.
Then I have another whole range of exercises in that same set/rep scheme.
I’ve ended my third week of this and heading into a fourth. I’m changing things up here pretty soon, though, but am not sure how, yet.
You’re not boring…I visit your forum along with the others here at PW to see the progressions. Great job on focusing on form instead of #'s. I found myself doing the same thing with squats.
How’s this for exciting? I saw a turtle, two bunnies, a crane, a woodchuck, and about 18 jellyfish…that was all in the span of my 45 min walk
I think I need new shoes…I used to be a size 10.5…and that size is pretty scarce in stores, so I’ve always worn mens size 8.5.
I say I used to wear a size 10.5 but I tried on some sandals this summer and I fit into a size 11!!
At least it will be easier to shoe shop now!!
So any recommendations? Probably a cross trainer, since I walk a lot?
The last shoe I bought was Saucony for around $50. It was amazing running in them for the first time. Before I just has Nike ACG trail runner shoes…big difference.
Bench-100lbs(woot!)
Inverted rows(challenging!)
Dead’s- 160lbs(woot!)
hyperextensions- 25lb plate, going up to 35 next time
Db bicep curls- 2 sets of 25s, 1 set of 20s
Front raises- 15s
Now if you want to know some more of my exciting day, I went driving around this morning trying to find this daycare to check out for the little one…spent an hour, I SUCK at trying to find new places, and meanwhile my daughter is SCREAMING her lungs out, oh man she hates the care!..
came home, called the hubby and we went to find it together…it was magically RIGHT THERE where it was supposed to be, lol…But we pulled in and quickly made a u-turn…I’m not one to judge as harshly as I did today, but this place was, well, it just wasn’t very daycare center looking in a not so nice part of town, and on a busy road none the less…
Had to catch up on your posts. Quite some reading.
First of all I think all your lifting is great. Sticking to working out hard is hard for many, so good for you!
Second of all, I am sorry to hear about your weight gain. The thyroid thing is a very tricky thing and first of all you have only been on meds a few weeks. Please let me remind you and it has already been stated here, that you are only going to get well so far on Synthryoid. Armour is so much better as it supplies T1, T2, T3, T4 and calitonin. The same things are own thyroid provides for us. The snythroid only provides us with T4. Also if you have even the slightess digestive issues, swallowing and it going into the stomach may not get into your system as needed. With Armour you can take subliqually(dissolve under tongue) and goes straight to the blood stream.
I don’t have any of by books or reference sheets with me, but please check the carbs out in the fruit you eat. You may need to adjust here and don’t forget your cereal is high carbs, milk etc. So maybe you are not eating as low carb as you think.
On another note I like New Balance for walking shoes. You are going to pay a little more for them, but they are worth it. Great support and they come in wide widths. Your talking anywhere from $50 - 100. I am a walker by nature, so I need a good shoe.
As a thyroid person and dealing with weight gains dispite what I was doing, it wasn’t until I cut the carbs that I started losing weight.
Man I hope this helps. My V-Diet is going and that is all I will say. At this point I don’t know whether I will continue another two weeks. I just don’t feel well and my emotions are jumping all over the place.
I’ll try to check back later. I have been so involed with my own program, that I haven’t ventured away too much.
I just got the results of my labs from Monday, and was told that everything looks like where it should be…today it has been one month since I started taking my meds…I feel better!
Still tired on occasion, but nearly as lethargic feeling as I was…My nurse practitioner doesn’t test for T3 after the initial test, nor does she prescribe ARMOUR…remember I’m getting treated through TRICARE(military) and would have to be referred out…
I’m keeping a close eye on how I feel and my ability to get this weight down…in another month or so I’ll bug her to to do a full work up, especially if I still haven’t lost any weight.
And I don’t feel like I could get any lower in carbs than I am now, lol…I’ve eliminated ALL grains/flour products…and only eat fruits with a GI lower than 50…mainly apples, berries and peaches…
I eat beans with lunch, and another serving of fruit for desert at dinner…I don’t know where else I would get carbs from! shrugs unless I ate three bags of broccoli!
Well lets see broccoli is a good start, cucumbers, lettuce, spinach in the form of lettuce,(can’t stand cooked), califlower, brussel sprouts, green beans, asaparagus! Those are my staples.
I am surprised I haven’t turned green. LOL! I am just saying watch those carbs. May be more there than you think. Gum, bar-bque sauce, catsup, salad dressings. Definately in beans, cereal and milk. May not effect you like it does me, but I need to stay strictly low carbs.
Please keep a watch on your thyroid and the symtoms. I felt good too for awhile while on Snythyroid. I soon went back to the same symtoms. The lab work for only T4 and TSH isn’t telling enough of the story.
Just a little update…
I start online classes on Monday, that I’m nervous and excited about…I’m nervous because it’s all done on the computer(duh) and my attention span isn’t all that great…I see to, uh, get distracted by other websites
I’m excited because I still get to stay home, I’m working on my degree AND getting paid for it( the GI BILL, I’m former military)
Trying to find a job was next to impossible, so I got the bright idea of going back to school!(online :P)
And I didn’t want to say anything, cause I don’t want to jinx it, but some shorts I bought just a few weeks ago are already starting to get loose and I’m constantly tugging at them to stay up…so that’s cool! I will weigh/measure on Monday…
Looking back now, I had gotten really lazy about cardio only days, REEEALY lazy…so it looks like I’m the type that even when I get to my goal weight, I’m still going to have to do cardio to maintain…I guess there are worse things in life!!
