My driveway is asphalt, but I got the plastic “skis” kit for the bottom of the sled—quiet, smooth, and doesn’t tear up the asphalt. The plastic is holding up way better than I imagined too.
Do you know what brand yours is? Maybe there’s a similar kit in which you could invest?
I’m up to 3 plates on mine, which is 222 lbs total (with the sled itself). But I started with 2 and worked that for quite awhile before going heavier.
Edit: I also have upright handles and really only push. The backwards drag is awkward using handles with the way mine is built. I’ve not tried a harness for either a push or a pull, so YMMV.
@Voxel on another log it looked like you referred to Dave Tate training for 8 weeks without a barbell, did I understand that correctly? Could you point me toward more details in that? I promised myself 2 weeks away from the bar in January.
I’ve heard him mention it in a few Table Talks. Don’t know which episode specifically, sorry. The premise seems to be to lay-off being forced into positions by grabbing a straight bar and cutting down on spinal loading/eliminating it.
I don’t have social media, but it appears as if Dave would actually reply to you if you DM’ed him on Instagram. Or you could do a superchat on YouTube when they are live (guessing that entails paying for like a monster or something).
Edit: if you do get a reply, please share what it entails in greater detail. I’d be very curious to know what it actually looks like.
If I remember correctly, he schedules a small barbell free window for competitive powerlifters directly after competition. It may be referenced in periodisation Bible article but I’ll do some digging in a bit and find more for you.

SQUAT
275x2 rep PR
175x22 rep PR LOL if that counts
superset DB Rows, 95lb
5x3 ish
Single-arm DB C&P
Messed around, up to 75lb, then:
20 total reps, 70lb, every 30 seconds on the second, alternating arms. A badass little 10-minute session that can easily be spiced up by adding a burpee or another clean between reps or lots of ways. I’m just getting started.
Then one rep each arm with 80lb, which @TriednTrue is as high as I felt like I could get today. Don’t know how close to 100 I could do but will keep pushing it.
Heck yes! That was my 1RM when starting the challenge seven years ago. I’ll try them tonight and tag you with the results This challenge is for fun and online community instead of serious competition, so I’m not expecting big numbers from me. It’s about momentum for the new year.
12/7 Tuesday
Sandbag:
10 picks, front carry, 10 picks, carry back.
5:21. Was all I had time for as I was taking care of the baby and he was cranky.
And so am I, because its pre-dawn and I’ve barely slept. Trying to eat now and just… don’t want to.
12/8/2021
Warmup elliptical
Deadlift
225x5
315x1
335x1
355x1 PR tie
365x1 PR but form was AWFUL, video pending
225x20
Superset 5x5 pushups
Played around with cable machines, nothing worth reporting.
Today sucked. Baby didn’t let us sleep last night; poop-pocalypse and other catastrophes.
I had crazy diarrhea - crazy even for me - and felt like an empty sack when I walked up to deadlift. Pulling 225 was too hard, pulling 315 was insanely hard - so I knew it wasn’t a good day to try this, but it was the plan, so I did it anyway. Glad I did but it was harder than it should have been.
No time for more at the moment, and no time to upload the video of the 365 but when i do I’ll ask for feedback because my back was round as hell.
