Floor to overhead with 70lb DB, single arm. 10 total reps.
This is a lot of fun and a good change of pace.
Farmer’s carry: two 120lb DBs, pick up, carry, drop; rest, repeat. Went much further than I expected to, fought hard on grip which is obviously the weak link here.
1x20 incline bench 95lb because it was just sitting there.
*Happy to have continued increasing my squat. However 315 is still a long way off, I felt so weak in the knees underneath 295 and, by the end, underneath 275. Knees start coming together and the area right behind them feels like the weak part. I took a video of a rep at 275, will post shortly for feedback on depth, form, setup/walkout, etc.
I want to be done with this! It’s hard work and “just a number” when there are so many other things to be doing. But I’m committed. The numeric goal is so much more concrete and measurable than “get bigger” or “get stronger” or “get leaner”. And progress has been significant. Just gotta keep on truckin for a few more weeks/months.
I do hate the eating.
I do love that I’m stronger all over now. I’ve transformed again, though the changes are subtle.*
The 275 looked solid but heavy. It’s hard to see from that angle but depth may have been a little high for comp but fine for a training lift.
You may find that if you can squat a little deeper you will get better rebound and drive out of the bottom. Doing some lighter weight pause reps will also help with confidence in the bottom of the squat.
I can’t remember but can you tell me how much you have added to squat in the last year ?
You will deff get to 315 and even beyond it just takes time mate.
Good job on the PR.
About 8 months ago I rebuilt my squat technique using a slightly higher bar position and more upright torso. That set me back a bit but since then the gains have been steady.
And only a couple months ago it seemed like you felt 315 was desperately out of reach. Nice work! Really looking forward to seeing you hit that goal soon. Is the four-plate deadlift next on the list?
Thanks! Yes it is next. Working quietly on it already, doing deads in the 300s, but a long way to go. I’m hoping the sandbag training tends to support the deadlift too; I think it will because that thing is hard to pick up and it’s a 100% deficit.
Congrats on your PR!! You’ve added 40+ pounds in one year, and that was after a step back for technique repair. I think 315 is closer for you than it feels. I agree with the others about the 275-pound rep; it looked like a solid rep with fatigued muscles.
Single arm floor-to-overhead DB presses ARE fun! Seven years ago, a guy I worked with had a goal of doing them with a 100-pound dumbbell. I trained it for a couple months and was able to do it with both arms. Maybe we should consider hosting a fun floor-to-overhead New Year’s challenge Participants can go for max weight or max reps with a fixed weight.
12/4/2021 Saturday FUNDAY!
Wife is out and parenting duties are light (just 2 boys, easy lol) so I did all this:
Incline bench:
10x115, 10x135, 10x155
Flat bench:
10x135, 10x155, 8x175
Decline bench:
IDK, 3 or 4 sets in the 135-175 range, couldn’t get the setup right, but I did some work.
Sandbag, 150LB:
a) pick and carry repeatedly to bring from my workshop to my driveway (250ft)
b)Six rounds, alternating shoulders: Pick and shouldercarry the length of my driveway. This was brutal! But I had the boys playing and cheering me on like @simo74 so fun
c) Ten pick-and-drops
d) Four bag-over-shoulder
e) Pick and carry into garage, where I plan to store it from now on
This is a great kick-off to my sandbag journey: it’s freaking hard, but by the end of the session I’m more comfortable with shouldering it than last time. There are obviously techniques here. An important one for shoulder carry: if the weight is on your chest, it will crush your breath out and carrying will SUCK! haha but once I shifted that weight to my back it was easy enough.
@dagill2@TriednTrue I’m definitely a fan of the heavy DB to overhead. IDK how far off 100lb is. But it’s great conditioning to do reps. If you set up a challenge I’m in.
@simo74@Bagsy@TriednTrue thanks for the kind words! I know I can get the 315 by following the road I’ve been on; but I just wish it didn’t require so much EATING.
Picked up a cheap lil sled from a neighbor today for $10. Now if I could find some plates to stack on it…
What kind 9f surface do you drag yours on @SvenG ? I have a feeling concrete or asphalt will shred this cheap steel tubing in no time, but I’m concerned about it sinking in the lawn…
