Hey, looks like I am late to the party, but I just wanted to say that I’ve enjoyed reading the first 5 or so and the last 5 or so pages of your log! Your progress has been awesome and it looks like you are ready to rock your meet Sunday, so i wish you the best!
I am doing my first meet in February and I intend to follow a lot of the same prep methods you’ve used. Kick some ass and have fun! Later man[/quote]
Hey thanks for stopping by…
You made me go back and find my starting point on this forum.
For a true look at my progress look at the first few posts of my previous incarnations of this training log:

Good luck SD. Have a great meet.
Thanks all!
today was meant to be off completely, but I ended up scraping the packed snow off the drive for about 2 hours. Worked my shoulders more than I should have. Steak and pumpkin pie is on the menu again tonight.
Good luck at the meet tomorrow, Soldog!
All the advice we got here was spot on. Just get ready to be really freaking tired at the end of the day, and make sure you manage your food and energy at the meet. I pulled two fairly light singles to warm up for deads, and that was plenty.
Go get em, George!
Jack
Good luck today!!! Looking forward to reading the results.
Pre-meet report:
I’m pleased to say I’m not feeling beat up from the snow scraping yesterday - but it’s snowing again today…
I actually slept 10 hours last night without getting up in the middle of the night at all, so I’m feeling a bit sluggish now. But I’m sure the drive in to Denver will wake me up.
I’m shooting to get there 10 -10:30 to make sure I find the place.
Hope to see spiderlady and Z-man there!

Colorado State Open - Part 1
Weighted in at 94.6kg
A successful day just chock full of learning opportunities. The drive in was long because of the snow but I made it there in plenty of time. Weigh-in was at 11am and here was my first learning opportunity. My belt, a cheap nylon Velcro one didn’t pass equipment check. Fortunately one of the Rocky Mtn Lifting Club members could loan me one. Met sister T-Nationers, Achrane and pushmepullme after weigh-in and I had my chief video person for the day. Thanks Arachne! Speaking with you and having you video my lifts helped greatly in keeping my composure.
Started getting nervous about 30 minutes before we started. This was heightened by the fact that I realized that I would be leading off the flight for all three lifts due to my openers. Warmed up the squat with a the bar, then 135 for 2 sets of 5 and finished with 225 for 2 sets of 3 (I think).
Squats started off with another learning opp.:
Open with 122.5kg
Wait for the “Squat” command!
Second lift kept to 122.5kg
Good lift
Third lift 132.5kg
Got called for depth.

Colorado State Open - Part 2
Bench- warmed up with the bar for a bunch. Then 95x5 and finished with 135x2 for two sets, as near as I can remember…
First attempt 80kg
Judges came over after the lift and told me that it shouldn’t have gone because my feet weren’t flat (they were on the outside edge and I was making contact with the bench) but since they didn’t call it - Good Lift
Second lift 97.5kg
was flustered by the judges calling out that my feet weren’t flat and started to press early, tried to stop and missed the lift.
Third attempt 97.5 kg
Got really flustered on this one and when I finally tried the press I came down way low on my chest and couldn’t budge it.

Colorado State Open - Part 3
Deadlift: Warmed up with 135x5 2 sets and 225x3 2 sets and 315x1 3 sets
First attempt: 157.5kg
Don’t know what happened but I almost fell on my face.
Second Attempt 157.5
Good lift - One red - side judge said my knees weren’t locked out
Third Attempt 170kg
Good lift - one red, side judge said my knees weren’t locked out
Right on! Got a total first time out. Took me three meets before I got one and, still, it’s not a recognized lifting body.
That judge on the left had it in for ya…
Meet jitters exorcised. Next one’s when you get to shine! Glad you had a crew to lend support and get these vids.
Great work, George! The USAPL is really strict on judging had has a LOT of rules. Excellent work getting good lifts on all three. Now, you have a total, and something to aim for beating the next meet!
You’ve just accomplished something more than 99% of the population would never even attempt.

Colorado State Open Summary
Had a great time and learned a lot:
- Keep your operners low! (this is the only thing that saved my meet total)
- Know the command and listen to them
- Know your equipment rule
- Don’t get aggressive on your 2nd attempt (bench was too big a jump)
- Nerves will get you everytime
Good lifts:
Squat: 1225kg (269.5lbs)
Bench: 80kg (176lbs)
Dead: 157.5kg (346.5lbs), 170kg (374lbs) PR
total: 372.5kg (819.5lbs)
Nice work, George! I thought the depth was good on that 3rd squat.
oh yeah - by virtue of showing up and getting a total.
1st place Colorado State Championships Mens Raw Masters 1B (45-49)
That award is well-deserved. Nice job! Congratulations for getting out there and competing and doing well to boot.
Great job! And a PR to boot. And i agree with Math, that third squat looked good.
Good work George, you got a total under very strict circumstances. Now build on that total.
George you were awesome! I was proud to be your crew. :):)![]()
