A Dog's 531 Journey

Let me just say: I Hate Deloads!

For some reason, I seem to take deloads as a good reason to indulge in too much beer and wine. It was fun but I’m just recovering today. Indulging isn’t doing anything to help reach a competition weight of 198 or less. And frankly, I’m having a hard time getting motivated to drop the fat right now. Winter is pretty much here in the high country and that’s the hardest time for me to get rid of the belly.[/quote]

Race ya to Kansas City!

Squat Barx10, OHS Barx10 135x5, 165x5, 195x5,

On May 1st I did 285x1 testing my max and during Cycle 1 of this program I did 240x4 in week 3. So I’m guessing a 30# increase in my max squat.

Hey Soldog,

I just caught up on your thread. That’s fantastic that you’re doing a meet. The squats are looking way stronger than back in the early summer. You’re moving a lot more weight, staying more upright, going deeper and the knees aren’t caving in. Excellent progress. You’ve made big gains on bench and dl too.

I hear you on the deloads. I think the hardest part of the 5/3/1 program for me will be really easing up on the deload weeks.

Yeah, I hate deloads. But after doing two cycles back to back without one, I can honestly say that I don’t recommend it. It’s nice to go into a new cycle feeling strong, but it’s very taxing.

Looking good on the lifting there, soldog! Keep it up!

Thanks guys!

cakewalk - it’s good to hear from you. don’t be a stranger.

math - I’ll bike, you walk…

Cycle6 Week1
Bench barx10, 85x5, 115x5
135x5, 155x5, 175x6 PR +2 reps and up to 210# on est. max

BBB 115x10 5 sets
DB BO Row 95x10 5 sets

Maybe adding a couple of heavier singles during my deload sessions helped out (or maybe it was the extra wine and beer) but tonight felt good and I’m pleased with the PR on the money set. But it’s becoming obvious that I’ll need to reset my bench max fairly soon

have a good one,

George

Nice job on the benches, Dog!

Quick question:

Are we talking pounds or kilograms in these lifts. (O dear god is wish it’s kilograms!)

I’m an old fart who started weight training 2 years ago for the first time in my life - it’s pounds.

Nice work! It has been said multiple times before, but you really are making great progress!

Thanks LS! but apparently I should be lifting 2.2 times what I’m currently doing…

Good work SD. I saw your note regarding making weight: don’t bother this time around. Making weight can really screw with you, both mentally and physically. Have fun going in as a light 220.

Fuck… still fried from benching last night. My lower back rounded on the first attempt at 300 so i regrouped and got my 5 reps. I guess I just shouldn’t do deads the day after benching although this is the first time I’ve felt this bad on dead night in a long time.

Ride to Salina challenge +4 miles, 444 to go…

Today is my 48th birthday and I’m going golfing with my son. Unfortunately, the last two training sessions have brought on more DOMS than I’ve had in a long time.

George

Congrats on the b-day George. Hope you score low today

Happy Bday Sol!

Happy 48th, George. Best Wishes.
