A Completely Random Thread of Randomness

Nobody in my generation says that. That’s just Gen X making sh*t up again.

I said this as a millennial.

I saw this earlier and it was absurd. Fucking trends.

Also: One or two weeks in 18 months?! I’m European and we do have much, much more of these ”micro-retirements” during the year.

I was going to make this point - when you start a new gig, you frequently have to work a year before taking a week, then most jobs give you a week per year until you accrue more over time. With the redistribution of wealth in “capitalist” Murrica, many younger workers have given up on getting ahead and are more likely to focus on quality of life rather than collecting cheese.

A good call I would say, of course not all have this luxury. Minimum wage workers etc. have to sweat constantly just to make a living.

Sadly even that’s not always enough. In US for example, the number of “working poor” have been growing for years.

Grok Companion is creepy. Man, this is going wreck those lonely dudes who are already shaky with their mental health and bad at talking to women. Fun, though. I had to tell “her” to stop flirting and calling me babe. It was ick.

And yes, there’s a male version coming soon.

What creeps me out about grok is how it searches Elon Musk’s opinion for every answer it gives.

@Chris_Shugart What’s your current thoughts about nicotine?

I was reading a story about how Anthony Bourdain ate at The French Laundry and Thomas Keller had a nicotine-infused dish right when he wanted a cigarette break.

I’ve got a decent horchata ice cream recipie I want to share, and thought that could be a fun addition.

Bro, it is an epic meal. Bourdain was with Ripert and Michael Ruhlman. Keller did like thirty courses and one of them was a Marlboro sorbet because Keller knew Tony would be jonesing for a smoke.
It is on video.

I taught Kitchen Confidential as part of my Contemp Lit class.

I’d be interested in any course materials related to that, if you still have them.

Whoa, that’s crazy about Bourdain. Never heard that before. Loved Kitchen Confidential! He actually wrote a graphic novel before he passed, but I’ve just seen some screenshots of it. Something about a sushi chef superhero?

Nicotine: 90% beneficial for cognition and long-term mental health. Also addictive even in the safe gum or mint form and quite an expensive addiction. Aside from the costs, it’s a net positive.

Long gone I’m afraid.

Problem solved

RIP then. That would have been an interesting class.

Bourdain also wrote the fictional novel Bone in the Throat before hitting it big five years later.

I love the guy, even if Appetites was hit or miss. Certainly he was right about Kissinger, Sunday gravy, and much else.

It turns out the NBA made a good investment carrying the woman’s league for awhile.

This year the WNBA collected $750 million in franchise fees from 3 new teams lining up to enter the league. And then they signed a $22 billion dollar TV deal.

That should cover their previous losses and then some.
