USAPL is the US affiliate of the IPF. The IPF has lifters from all over the world, including several European countries.
Just curious but as a judge, were you notified by IPF of the new changes voted in (weight class, etc.) or do you have to find out those things yourself?
Interestingly, my weight class (52 kg) was the only one that remains unchanged.
Not sure how I feel about NASA. I’d like to go see a meet. I think there’s one on the 20th, but I’ve got too much kid duty that day. That fed certainly doesn’t have the reputation or broader presence that USAPL does.
Hope to see you in a couple of weeks.
I’m pretty sure I’ll do the state meet. Now I’m just trying to decide whether to drink coffee before weighins to steal the 198lb class squat and bench records FOR ALL ETERNITY.
I got the same notice everyone else got - rumors and innuendo and the USAPL forum, etc. Seems the IPF could handle this in a much better fashion and have a lot less grumpiness if they’d give us clear information.
I’m a USAPL judge, not IPF, so these rules don’t even quite apply to us yet, I think. RG probably knows a lot more about this than I do.
My friend who has benched in NASA said basically she got a press command almost immediately, and the squats were higher looking. One thing I like about USAPL/IPF is the strictness and uniformity of judging.

Yes, we talked about the benching issues quite a bit today while training. He informed me that the liftoff proposition did not pass THANKFULLY. Also, I shared your concern about the butt issues depicted on the IPF website. He said he thought those photos had been there for quite some time and didn’t anticipate you would run afoul with your current ass contact practices. He reiterated that the rule is “50% of the buttocks on the bench,” which is WILDLY subjective in my opinion, but no different than what he’s told me all along.

I couldn’t agree more. Also, I tend to squat naturally deep but that is not rewarded in NASA. I kinda like the form-nazi reputation that USAPL has.

It’s generally under 181, teens, and women the first day, and 198+ men the second day.
So, got up this morning for some chest/shoulder work. Getting home around 7 or 8 most nights, and then dealing with household crap, is not good for my workouts. So I’m trying it in the morning.
Holy fuck 5 am is early. I had some caffeine, but was still very slow and murky. Anyone here train alone, in the mornings, and not a morning person? Tips/tricks?
Ended up doing some light bb benching to 135, db floor pressing, and db military pressing. My back is still a little fucked up from the good mornings of death.
I practiced my bench setup a lot, trying to feel out where my ass is in relation to the 50% rule. It seems to me that I cannot flatten my ass onto the bench any more without tilting my pelvis and rounding my lower back. I’m practicing getting leg drive without tucking my legs back toward my hips, while maintaining my selected lifting position.
I have tight psoas/hip flexors/whatever, so that tight legs-to-hips position is always painful for me anyway. I just need to see how I handle real weight with a looser feeling setup. Hubby will shirt me on Sunday afternoon for that.

I don’t have to any more, but I used to. Get everything laid out the night before so you don’t have to think, including the coffee so you can just press a button. In addition to coffee, I really like some of that NO2 bullshit supplement, because it was loaded with other stimulants like ginsing (sp?). You will need a little more pre-work to get your blood moving, like box jumping or jump rope. You need the get the fluid in your joints moving more first thing in the morning. If you have access to one, stretching in a sauna also helps. Beyond this, it is just suck it up and get used to it. Deadlift is the hardest in the morning, don’t skimp on the warmup, even if you are late, or you will get hurt in the morning.
Just chiming in on the IPF and weight classes. Seems like they should have implemented the change January 2012 instead of 2011. This would have given the USAPL time to come up with a plan and not have taken us all by surprise so to speak.
I imagine the USAPL will make an announcement right after the worlds are over, we’ll have to see.

I used to lift at 5:45am. I’d wake up and turn all the lights on and make it as bright as possible and play a loud gym music playlist off my laptop while I ate my oatmeal to get my body in wake up mode. I also took a pre-workout supp like superpump.
I don’t know about you but I had to do a longer warm up. I’d go through all the dynamic stretching, do some quick burst sprints or jumping or explode with some weights to really make sure I was “ON” and ready to go. I still lost about 10% in the morning but the routine helped to not feel groggy and angry going in. Hope that helps.
i find it takes about an hour to get sorted out properly for lifting, not for cardio or endurance work, Cosgrove recommends an hour to get the spine lubricated properly, i still find myself not as strong in the am though.
I use joe defranco’s hip circuit frequently for hip conditioning, i find it works great, paired with dynamic stretching, leg swings etc.

Wow all the political stuff in the PL world seems daunting.
RE Early morning workouts for non morning person? UM YEAH THATS ME!! I train alone and at least two days a week its early. I set my alarm for 4:40 a.m. I then ATTEMPT to get out the door by 5:30. What do I spend that time doing? DRINKING COFFEE! Wash my face with cold water and start downing the coffee… get dressed try to get pumped. AT the gym I do maybe 15 minutes of activation and stretching. I like to blast my get pumped music usually by the time I’m in the lion’s den I’m good to go. Sorry can’t be more helpful. For me it has to be moring or it won’t be at all so I make it work. Wouldn’t it be nice to not have to work for a living and be able to work out in the afternoon every day? sigh
I prefer lifting later at night, sometimes i don’t get in the gym until 8.30 or 9 pm, not optimum, but it’s my window of opportunity. Once i get in and stop fucking around, crank some tunes i get more benefit that the early am session, for strength anyway, then i can cardio or endurance it in the am… lots of caffeine too.

You are in the gym at 5am? Wow.
When I lifted in the morning I started at 7am, what I did was eat a large breakfast at 6am, then 25mg of ephedrine before I left for the gym.
I am an early morning train alone kind of girl. It may not be ideal, but if you do it consistently I’m sure you’ll adapt. I don’t have any tricks–I just abuse caffeine, foam roll a ton, and get my heart rate up before I touch any weights.
heart rate is a big one. i like to do complexes to get it right up there. it will take a week or so to get accustomed to the early morning workouts
Um yea I workout alone at 5:30 a.m. most days. I warm up with some mobility stuff in the house, than wander down to the garage do some jump roping, other warm up. I get up at 4:55 a.m drink coffee, have some peri workout nutrition, walk around and wake up mostly. It just takes discipline and keeping after it, dont know if you ever get used to it though.
