this guy told me that im skinny. His advice to me, was to eat a total of 7000 cal a day, and try and eat atleast above 4000, now he is same height, though he is 22, and black, im white, not sure if that plays a part in anything. But should i take this advice series?
No.
If you are not currently gaining or losing weight, find out how many calories an average you are eating a day then add 500 to it. Eat that many calories for a week. If you gained a lb or two, then you know how many calories to eat. If you did not gain weight, add 500 more calories a day the next week.
Umm that sounds like a bad idea. You can’t gauge yourself using someone elses body. There is simply too many factors that will make your plan faulty. Id start at 3000kcals per day with your preference percentages. %s from protein, carbs, fats. And like Gooch mentioned keep on adding 500kcals until you start gaining weight. I’d start pounding carbs pretty hard.
Throw in some homemade weight gainer shakes if you’re having trouble getting all the food in. One of my favorite gainer shakes consists of: 3 scoops whey, 1 cup milk, 2 cups water, 1 cup oats, 1 cup fat free plain yogurt, and enough ice to make it crunchy. If its post workout I throw in some dextrose.

He gave you a range of 4,000 - 7,000 cals a day. With a difference of 3,000 cals daily, his advice doesn’t seem too accurate.
SO this guy told you you were skinny, eh?
Since you’re not bragging about kicking this guy’s ass, I’m guessing he told you to go eat a lot.
I dunno about the 4-7k thing, but he’s probably right.
Oh, and race has nothing to do with it… unless he stole your woman. But even then, it probably has more to do with his incredible ability to pack away food than his skin color or derivitives of his skin color.
OTOH, if you did eat 7k calories/day… And you trained hard… I can practically guarantee you would gain muscle.
7000cal seems like alot but it all depends on what you do for a living
if you’re working 8+ hour days in a manual labour type job or you play alot of sports like basketball 4-5 times a week as well as your lifting program then 7000cal might be justified
working out how many calories you eat in a normal day to maintain your current weight then adding 500cal a week until you start seeing some weight gain is probably the best way for you to go about it
Stop making stupid ass threads, read the beginner stickies and articles. you keep asking dumb questions. Eat 3500calories-4000calories for now and JUST LIFT.
I would say 7k is little too much for a beginner-thats pretty much what very advanced trainers eat to maintain a lot of mass-. Your probably used to eating under 2k calories if your skinny. Just up it to 3500 or so get 6 solid meals a day and lift heavy.
I’m going to jump on the bandwagon and say 7k sounds a bit excessive. Even physically eating that much is a challenge itself. Check out “Massive Eating” parts 1 and 2 by Dr John Beradi. They will tell you how to compute your caloric needs. Everyone else’s ballpark of ~3500 seems accurate, this is roughly what I consume and I have gained about 1 lb per week for about 5-6 weeks.
I would aim for 4,000 a day. You will probably overestimate how many calories you eat, so it’s better to eat too much than too little.
yah 4000-4500 cals sounds like a much better number see how you respond and if you gaining! But without a good training program all the food in the world wont get you growing muscle
if you’re sitting on your ass 8+ hours a day with a sedentary job or in general in front of the TV or computer then no you don’t deserve 7000 calories a day

I do lift, but i want to know some shit so i feel comfortable enough to lift without having this hanging thought of it all being waster, or there being a better way to use my time. Im sorry but you don’t know me,i have a hard time doing something i like, weights has been one thing that i can stick too, and i want to do it right.
I already said this in your other thread and I’ll say it again.
Start around 3500 and if your not gaining weight over time up it by 200 until you start gaining.
