That guy is an animal!

That was close grip? Hmmmmm…maybe I need to work on my grip in bench press. Nonetheless; amazing strength.

Man must be hung like a MOOSE.

I feel so… so inadequate.

Agree for a comp grip etc and how damn big and wide he is sure not crazy close but close prob pinky on rings

Damn fine work had a lot in the tank

As an aside, anyone feel they’re stronger raw with a slightly closer grip? (ie < pinky on rings)

I know for a fact I’m considerably stronger with a closer grip than wider grip. Bench seems to work my triceps a lot more, but that could just be I don’t train wide grip nearly as much.

Yeah, by about 50 pounds… but I train with my thumb right next to the shiny middle part, so it makes sense… kinda like, “you are what you eat”, except, “you lift how you train”.

I have never done anything outside of the pinky ring; therefore, I am stronger with that grip. At least I think so. LOL

Iam way stronger with a wider grip. I bench index finger on the rings. But I have decently long arms and weak triceps.

First time I tryed wide grip I hit a 3 rep PR.

I trained nothing but index fingers on the smooth part of the bar for a while on flat bench. After a while that grip was stronger for me than an index fingers on the rings grip. Pinky fingers on the rings is my strongest grip though.

That guy is a fucking tank.

I just asked because I’ve found that with a closer grip I’m free to bring my lats into a lot more for the inital push off my chest.

But then again… since I arch so much and have shortish arms, when I go illegal wide I can blast out more than I could close (but I only do a 5/6rm because I don’t want to kill my shoulders!)

i lift raw and find i am a lot stronger with close grip where my whole hand about an inch or so in from the rings.

Yes. I switched last year from index finger on the rings to pinky on the rings. I was a little weaker initially, but after 3 weeks or so I was already ahead of the slightly wider grip. I’m a delt/tri presser so it has definitely helped.

I’ve experimented around for my strongest raw grip and when the bar is at my chest elbows perpendicular to the floor is perfect. For me this is 1" inside of pinky on the ring grip. I get much more explosion out of the bottom and can use my lats and triceps to my advantage.

That’s pretty fucking strong.

I consider anything with pinky on the rings or closer to be close grip, but I got some long arms.

On Hanley’s question I used to be stronger pinky-on-rings but as I got bigger/stronger in my shoulders and upper back, I found that my optimal grip for most lifts moved out a bit (bench, pullups, deads, RDLs, etc.). By the way Hanley, how’s that Phenom you were posted a vid of a few months back working out for you?

“Oh my goodness.” I see kegs in the corner thats always a good sign.

THanks for the response!

I canned it and went with an F6. Far more comfortable shirt and a hell of alot easier to use. AND it’s looser.

I’ve put up 150kg x3 in the gym and 155kg in comp at 90kg. The world drug free champs are in november so I’ll be hoping to go close to 170kg this time around. The F6 is awesome. Not a huge phenomn fan, but I never really tried to make it work THAT much for me.
