5/3/1 SVR

Hey Jim,

Just finished six months of BBB, 5x10 and 5x5, with great results! I imagine BBB will be my long term mainstay, but wanted to try something different for a few months. Just started 5/3/1 SVR and have a quick question for clarification: In Beyond for week 3 you say don’t go for max reps and keep working up for 3-5 additional singles, but the included diagram still shows the third set as 1+. Exceed 1 but leave something in the tank for the additional, heavier singles?

I was confused by that diagram as well. Could be a misprint. The way I understood it is that you only go for max reps on the first week. Second week is required reps only up and down the percentage ladder…and third week working up to a max single again with no extra reps. I could be wrong but again this is just how I read it.

Just keep working up with singles. Just like it says.

Dan: I read week 2 as + sets on the third and fifth sets. So basically your standard 5+ PR set, and a 5+ FSL which tracks, I believe, with the pyramid variation detailed in 5/3/1 2nd Edition (don’t have it in front of me at the moment). That’s how I’m running it anyway.
