Holy crap. 385 x12 is awesome.
I was really pleased to hit my target for today. Well - I was really pleased once I could breathe normally again… I’m getting my conventional DL form back as my back heals up. Hips at optimal height, pulling back into my legs and humping the bar rather than the human crane impression I’ve been doing this last year. No pain or problems in the back at all these last two DL sessions or after.
what jack said and dats some good news!

The first time I foam rolled my IT band, I giggled. Good thing I’m not Catholic.

Me no unnerstang. Fergot my smart pills scrip.

It’ll probably ruin it to explain it, so don’t feel obligated.
An (overly) oblique reference to the joke/myth that the more prudish giggle when they “self-spank”; throw in some guilt over deriving pleasure from pain, etc…

p.s. Brussels sprouts seared and cooked in pancetta fat are one of my favorite dishes.

edit p.s. Nice job with the 385 x 12 deads -385 is my 1 rm!

Thank you. I thought it might be something like that, but feared it was more esoteric than I was capable of divining.

385 will become warmup weight for you, I’m sure.

Do you have a log?

Hams are finally loosening up, but now I have the pleasure of my quads cramping at odd moments. Really wanted to bench today, dunno if I’ll have time tomorrow.

F**k it. I’ll make time.

THAT’S what I’m TALKING ABOUT!

Nice lifting, DCA. You are a machine.

Hey Tony, looks like you did a much better job of picking your training maxes. You are hitting the reps right where I would want them.

on the BBB, i never get bored, but I’m usually in a hurry. Try alternating them, ie bench, kroc row, bench, row, bench, row, bench, row, bench, row. Since dropping fat is not a big deal for der ab-meister, take 60 seconds rest between each set, ie bench 60 row 60 bench etc. you will be able to use a slightly higher weight, you will get stronger faster (at least I did once I dialed in the right training maxes) and less bored. but I have to check the sets off in my journal or they do start to run together. and i want to reiterate how unfair it is that i am have 100 lbs on you, and your DL has 100 lbs on mine. just aint rite

It’s only temporary. As you lose weight your DL will go up due t improved leverage.

As soon as I’m sure I can complete the BBB sets, I’ll institute the exercise coupling. It’s a darned good idea. My conditioning is so bad that I’m still not certain I’m going to make all 5 sets of each exercise. And in fact I didn’t on deadlift day. Only got 4 sets before I had to stop.

Thanks for checking in, John.

Cycle 1, Week 2, Day 3

BP - 3’s
Bar x 20
120x5
140x5
161x3
184x3
207x11 (est Max 282.92)

CGBP
140 10x5 sets

BB Row
185 10x5 sets (easier this time - raise weight)

Wanted 12 on bench, but it’s good. Boosted my est max +2 lbs so it’s cool.

Think I’m going to stick to doing 2 reps over required on deads and focus on speed for those. Repping out kills my bench. I’m certain I could have popped two more reps on bench at least were I not still fatigued from deadlifts two days before. I’ll let the DL day assistance work build up the backside.

Mind-boggling, that decision. Of course, the cynic in me simply thinks that it changes nothing, except that what was done cloaked, can now be done openly.

I don’t have a log. I am a dedicated dilettante. My modest goal(s) is to walk into a gym when I turn 50, dl 405, squat 315, bench 275 (plus another 5 lbs from 1 of the 3), lift my wife-beater tee to check out my hawt abz in the mirror, and tell my adoring audience: “Somewhere in Alabama, there’s this even older dude named Harry who can…”

DAMN MAN!
Some serious volume…

I predict awesome things happening in the next few cycles.

I’m hoping so SteelyD. Hoping so. Things don’t really get rolling until Cycle 6 through 8, but I shold be sasquatch-ass strong by then if I keep my eating up. GoMaD for me.

2010-1-29

Cycle 1, Week 2, Day 4

Squats
140x5,5
190x5
230x3
263x3
296x10 (est max 394.57 + 20 lbs)

Sumo DL
255 10x5 sets

Ab stuff and maybe front squats later. Son has a basketball game this afternoon in about an hour and he needs to eat something beforehand.

Well they lost. Again. Not too happy with the coaching, but the guy’s doing the best he can, I guess. They’re 1 and 6 right now, though. It’s been very hard to watch and stay positive about it for my son. There’s so few teams they could lose the last game and still make it to the playoffs.

Positive reinforcement and non-emotional, factual critique seems to go a long way in kids sports so far as I can see.

Signed up for the virtualmeet.net deadlift-only meet the weekend of the 12th. Testing opener and 2nd attempt on Monday.

barx20
95x5
115x5

And it’s not a PR either! Crap!

BBB MP
110 10x5 sets

Chins
BW 10x5 sets

Bummer. Guess I needed another day of rest before doing these. Wanted to be fresh on Monday for deadlifts though. Oh well - let’s see how the next cycle goes.

2010-2-1

Cycle 1 week 3, day 2 - DL 5/3/1

500x0 (2nd attempt.
407x8 (est max 515.42 - heh)
edit: actually got 9. est max 528.98. Glad I vidded it.

GM’s (conv. DL stance)
