Tony have a great holiday,
Egg nog the ultimate mass gainer!!!
See, now meat’s got me athinkin’ on these here reverse band squats and I’m athinkin’ it’d be pretty damn cool to have fi’ hunnert pouns acrosst my shoulders and do the old dipsy-do with it. It’d be a friggin Thanksgiving holiday celebration if that could be accomplished…
edit:
Of course, having written the above I had to go try it out at 4 in the frickin’ AM.
Reverse Band Squat (tension at bottom ~150)
205x3
225x3
315x3
385x2
435x1
485x1 (baseline PR)
510x0
435x1 (from the bottom)
385x5
I think I could have gotten 500 to turn around but 510 was a bit too much. It’s a whole different animal than Anderson squats. The weight gets heavier (obviously) as you come up. At it’s heaviest, no part of the movement gets any easier because the bands give up their tension as you move into where you’re strongest. Unlike a standard squat, there’s no guarantee that once you get past a certain point you’ll lock out the weight - you have to fight the whole way up. Felt good to have the whole weight at the top after coming up.
Way cool.
edit:
power ring pushups (hands by short ribs)
BW 10x3
Fat man Pullups
BW 10x3 sets
Great lifting, DCA. That RBS sounds really cool. Happy Thanksgiving!
I love reverse band squats and reverse band Bench! It just feel awesome to walk that big iron out! Great job!

Thanks Colin and jj!
Power ring pushups and fatman pullups were not enough, but all I could do inbetween talking to guests at our little Thanksgiving hoo-rah yesterday. Gonna try and get my Deadl Incline Presses and some high pulls in today to make up.
yeah, band work is weird…you can put up a certain weight, easy. But add 5-10 pounds to it and it crushes you.
But you’re right, band work is great! I haven’t tried reverse band squats yet, but I’ve been doing band work on both deads and bench, and really enjoy it.

Good Night tonight. Wife is pissed at me for hitting the gym and then logging it. It must be a mutually held opinion by each gender that the opposite sex is bugnuts crazy.

Sorry Steve - he don’t drink…
prolly should just go lift again, but I’m not one for marital advice…
This should please Harry:
I wasn’t really up for squats today having done the reverse band squats yestiddy, but I wanted to do a full schedule today. The weights were getting heavier and I was starting to puss out and worry about my back and what-all - so I started thinking about all those times I had my face pushed into a toilet in grade school and had my ear flicked by the jock sitting behind me on the bus and times I got run out of my space by a bully, etc,etc and pretty soon I was livid mad.
Attacked the bar grunting and muttering and hollering a bit on the way up and made a right fool of myself. BUT I got all my reps and I hit the top weight I had targeted AND managed to stay tight and in good form.
BTW - I NEVER go to high school reunions.

ah - maybe you should, kick but and take names! all the bully boys are probably fat and on heart/blood pressure meds…
nice story, btw
10th HS reunion - hospital, wounded in Grenada
20th Hs reunion - hospital, wounded in Somalia
30th Hs reunion - made it, it was fun, in a bittersweet way. Go, the shape you’re in, it’ll make you feel good about yourself. Time to put that crap behind you.
Went to my 20th. Didn’t like them 20 years ago and found out I still don’t. I won’t be going to another.

You consistently surprise me.

Living that life every day. I feel for you. I made my 10th, and still liked everyone. Missed the 20th, made the 30th. We are now all polar opposites of what we were in 1979. I doubt I’ll attend the next one
I raised my rack on some blocks and will be able to incorporate more banded lifts now, which I will count as non-full-range days. I seem to be having success doing extreme range of motion alternated with heavy partials in both upper and lower body lifts. This also works out to be alternated heavy and light days which is what I think keeps me from burning out, despite my exercise frequency per movement pattern per week.
I’m doing something like front squat, then high Anderson, deep paused squat then sumo DL which shortens the range of motion. But I think the assistance work is where the extra strength is being developed. I just have to be careful of volume in that area and it makes my lifts go up throughout the rotation. Whenever I do GMs and RDLs my squat goes up and when I stop those it stalls or reverses. Whenever I do overhead lockouts my press starts going up again. Adding the cleans and high pulls is working the “platform muscles” for the press as well, as I’m finding it easier to hold the bar at the bottom and to bring the bar back over my head during the press.
When I go back to benching I need to figure out a similar strategy.
I might just be figuring out why this little program I’m doing works for me…

I’m probably reading a lot into what I perceive as “an attitude.” It’s hard for anyone to understand the attraction of this pursuit, much less how important it is to those of us engaged in it to share our experiences with like-minded people. Probably DOES look crazy. I mean, as soon as I’m done lifting I jump on this forum and get my numbers in the log and I react to being interrupted pretty negatively. That focus could be softened a bit to preserve some family harmony, I think. It’s not like anyone is waiting with bated breath to see my numbers, after all. Now maraudermeat, yeah, or some of the other strong dudes - but my posts can wait a little bit probably. ![]()
Harry’s right. I need to drop that ill-will towards childish behavior performed by children in the distant past. I’ve been on facebook for a while now and most of the people I’ve connected with have managed to become decent human beings (something I’m still working towards, if I’m to be honest) and interesting people in their own rights.
30th reunion is next year and I think I might go.
Really wanted to train to day, which is a great sign, but I can feel that the body isn’t quite recovered from the 27th’s session.
Have a feeling I’m gonna hit a big zercher tomorrow after all the tanking up I’ve been doing. BW is hovering close to 195 and I’m shooting for 200 by December’s end.
Oink.

Actually, Tony, your posts are rather significant. Sure, everyone keeps up with Meat. I mean, who doesn’t want to click over and watch someone lift a house and impart the methods that helped him get there. Most of us will never be a “Meat”, though.
You, on the other hand, are strong as hell…yet discontent with the level you have attained…and keep after it day after day. The breadth of routines and programs you have tried is a wealth of knowledge. I doubt any poster has given others as many “ideas” and exercises to try as you have. Throw in your insight an wit and its a winner. And your are definitely a brother in iron!
Besides, as has been stated over and over, HERE we like, want and hope to see others progress and reach new heights. And you continually deliver (when not screwing with Hepburn :)…
But, yeah, it can wait a few minutes…as can anyone’s. When you have a group as close as this one seems to be, though, you want to share!
