5/3/1 BBB Bench: Pause or Touch and Go?

Hi, I’ve just finished deloading my first 5/3/1 Cycle and i’m going to give BBB a go and I was wondering If for the 5X10 bench press you do a proper powerlifting bench or just touch and go, I know it’s probably a stupid question but I just wanted to make sure.

Whichever you want. Try basing it off of the same style of bench you used to calculate your TM.

Thanks, I just wasn’t sure that 5X10 in the same style as 5/3/1 would work very well

If it doesn’t, use a different style.

I do touch and go but you can pause the first and/or last rep. In the new book BBB is always in the leader cycle, although you can still work on technique I do more of that in the anchor cycles. The main goal of BBB is to build muscle, practicing a competition style bench press for 5 sets of 10 reps does not have as much translation to an actual 1RM attempt.

I tend to start with a wider grip during warmups on the bench and narrow the grip a bit as the weight increases. The work sets end up being the same grip width. Then for my FSL sets, I go back to a wider grip and bring the bar more to the neck than the chest (guillotine press style).

You can do either - it doesn’t matter.
