BBB 5x5

I just starting BBB 5x5 after doing BBB 5x10 for a few cycles.

I was wondering is it ok to do the opposite lift for the 5x5 @80% or should it be done with the same lift?

example Bench 5/3/1
Press 5x5 @ 80%

Or Bench 5/3/1
Bench 5x5 @ 80%

I have the Beyond book and it doesn’t specify so I am assuming the either option is ok.

From memory so dont get pissed if a little off… , one the recommended ways is to do a four day upper lower split. On your two days of upper you do one day of Bench 531 and OHP 5x5 and the other upper day was OHP 531 and Bench 5x5. Same for squats and dead lift on lower day.

I’m pretty sure there’s a note in there that says all options can be used either way unless otherwise noted.

There is a template for either way you want to do it. It’s really up to how much boring you can handle, haha. I don’t switch to the opposite exercise for lower body, but that’s because I’m lazy and don’t want to switch the rack for the different bar position. I switch for upper-body because of a previous shoulder injury that can only handle so much heavy flat bench pressing before it quits on me. Kudos for doing the prep to be ready for 5x5!

Yes - you can do that. Just be sure you don’t short change the warm-up for the second lift.

Cool, Thanks for the replies.

I would be curious to see your thoughts/results on 5x5 vs. 5x10 Camm because I’m doing the exact same thing right now, including with opposite lifts. I did a two month 5x10 cycle and just finished a month at 5x5, with one more to go. So far I prefer 5x10, but that’s just a feeling with results yet to be tallied.
