I’ll know it when it happens

Haha you remind me of Tweety Bird!

Day 9

NEPA treadmill walk 60 mins at 3.5 MPH… check.
Order to Biotest for more Metabolic Drive… check.
The most painful part… the check.

And yet another benefit of the V-Diet: studying my notes while walking on the treadmill, so I do well on my exams!

It’s one thing to believe that your efforts will pay off.. it’s quite another thing to see tangible changes unfold before your eyes. Unbelievable to think that in 4 weeks you can make a pretty big change.. what’s 4 weeks?!?!

Happy New Years to everyone, this year will be one where we see real efforts, which breed real results, a year of great health and living life at a higher level! Best luck to everyone in their own personal quests!

My last protein shake is at 10:30.. I will save half of it and raise a toast! There will be no alcohol or food etc. for me tonight, nothing but the sweet, sweet taste of success!

Great first week results Wakiki! I can see the difference in your waist size and I think you are doing a great job and have a really good attitude in this.

Much success to you, Take care.

Thanks for the encouragement Gus! Happy new year!

Day 10

Felt slightly under the weather today but immediately reversed when I hit the gym. Altered sleep schedule (noise last night from neighbors’ new years parties).

Got my energy back in the gym. It’s like when I step in there, I leave everything outside the door. It’s just me, challenging myself, and I don’t give a damn about anything else. It’s MY time. This is MY game, and no matter what else is going on, I am being proactive and taking solid steps towards my goals. This is non-negotiable, whatever else will wait.

BB bench press 10x3
A1 Romanian DB deadlift 4x6
A2 Standing BB military press 4x6
B1 Machine calf press 4x6
B2 Upright rows 4x6
Triceps pressdowns 4x6

(Waterbury Method)
I like the symmetry in this workout - triceps, shoulders, calves attacked from different angles, multiple times.

After the workout tonight, I had a pretty massive appetite.. thank God for the Surge!!

When I have cravings, I remember that if this did not pay off, there is no way in hell I would be doing it! I don’t think I will ever look at food, or portion sizes, the same way ever again!

Day 11

60 mins NEPA treadmill walk at 3.5 MPH.

Observations:

  • Getting adequate sleep is critical to mood and managing hunger levels.
  • Managing emotions and managing stress are necessary to keep on task.
  • Positive self talk is helpful for remaining optimistic.
  • Water intake makes a big difference in terms of energy level and mental clarity.

Wow, tomorrow is already Thursday - I look forward to Saturday morning to see what this week’s results are. In the first week a significant portion of the weight loss was water weight and glycogen depletion, so now it should be strictly fat loss…

Rock on, fellow V-men! (and V-women!) : )

… Living each day as a man reborn, sensing the changes in my soul…

Day 12

Woke up with cold-like symptoms today - Don’t feel significantly sick or weak, but lots of sneezing and runny nose. Restless night. Picked up some Vitamin C tablets and some NyQuil to really knock my lights out tonight so I can get some good sleep.

.. 3:30 PM. feeling somewhat better. Going to keep to my schedule and work out tonight, will take a hefty dose of green tea and maybe a Spike before hitting the gym later.

Will be paying very careful attention to getting enough sleep, and this will hopefully pass quickly. This isn’t gonna keep me down. Looking forward to the solid meal on Saturday! I will post again tonight after training.

7:45 PM

Just had a VERY productive workout - and feel better, although I am sore as hell, but in a good way

Chin-ups 10x3
A1 Decline BB bench press 4x6
A2 Standing hammer curls 4x6
B1 Machine calf press 4x6
B2 Lying leg curls 4x6
Lunges

Very sore, but I actually added a few pounds to the chin-ups, calf press, lying leg curls, and lunges - nothing major, but I am at least maintaining strength!!

Got an exam tomorrow morning, gonna go to review session, and hit the NyQuil later.

Once again I return victorious. Once more the battle is fought, and won, in the mind.

Day 13

NEPA treadmill walk 60 minutes at 3.5 MPH.

Went to the grocery store today for tomorrow’s meal.
The effect of seeing the sheer volume of foods in the grocery store was pretty overwhelming. Watching what people put in their carts without so much as a second thought amazes me.

This diet has completely shifted my perspective about food. It’s also made me painfully aware of how society practically revolves around food, and how food has come to fill so many needs aside from nutrition…

Oh man! I always look down at people who have their shopping carts filled with shit. I think I’ve developed some sort of food-elitist attitude.

The vast majority of your shopping should be on the outside perimeters…produce, breads, meat and dairy. The packaged stuff should mostly consist of pasta, canned fish and lentils. It’s ol’ school eating. I’ve become sickened by what the food industry has become. It really does bother me to see the kind of shit they sell to people.

I hope junk food becomes somewhat like tobacco, where it’s no longer socially accepted to stuff our faces with it. That being said, we should be able to indulge once in a while, unlike smoking.

Anyway, keep up the good work!

Day 14

Results for week 2

Weight 148.2
Body fat 16.8%

Progress:
Total weight from 149.2 to 148.2 (-1 pound)
Body fat from 17.1% to 16.8% (-0.3%)
Fat mass from 25.5 to 24.9 (-0.6 pounds)
Fat-free mass from 123.69 to 123.30 (-0.4 pounds)

Woke up at 4:55 this morning with a serious hunger. I never heard my stomach make so many different sounds! Realized that I forgot my second dose of HOT-ROX yesterday! Decided to take it right then, along with some BCAA. Big mistake. Let’s just say, I wasn’t able to go back to sleep.. haha, oh well

Seems pretty strange that the scale barely moved this week - I have not changed anything, and have kept strict to the diet. However, I have noticed some more definition in my legs and just all around, and my lifts are staying strong, so I’ll see what the next week brings. And in any event, this diet is worth it for the psychological rewiring alone. No turning back, when I say I’m gonna do something, I damn well do it!

1:30 PM

Just finished my hour long NEPA walk through the park, followed by my weekly meal:

9 oz lean ground beef burger, a la Foreman
broccoli and cauliflower
1 apple
Strawberry-Kiwi 0-calorie drink mix

YUMMMM. Yup, threw in the apple this week, it just looked too damn good. Noticing some changes as far as cravings go. The last thing I craved like mad was the smell of peanut butter melting on a hot whole wheat toast, it just about drove me mad.. can’t wait to be off this thing and slowly ramp up my calories again - hell, I don’t really give a damn for cake or chips or whatever now.. just gimme peanut butter!!

This is how the cookie crumbles…

Hahahahaha! That’s annoying, isn’t it?

I hated it when that happened too. I think it’s one of the reasons some people don’t stick to this. They get hung up on the numbers and when the scale doesn’t match with what they think they should be at, get upset and drop it.

Like Chris said – the scale is just a number and the weight loss may not be consistent (which is why he advocates doing a weekly scale check instead of daily). I remember the first time I did the diet, one week I lost 2 pounds and was panicking about whether the diet was actually a good idea. The week after that, I lost about 7 pounds.

Great job with staying positive. It’s also great that you’re getting support from your roommate about this. What’s been the reaction from other people you know? Supportive? Think you’re crazy?

Well, there is no turning back, not for me. I am gonna ride this through.

My roommate says that it’s inhumane, but he is pretty supportive, to the extent of encouragement, and more importantly, not flaunting food in my face  Actually it’s rubbing off a bit, he is starting to make better food choices. He especially liked the Atomic Dog “Merry Christmas, Bob.” On our fridge is a picture of an Oreo cookie pizza which we cut out from an advertisement. On it I wrote in black marker, “Merry Christmas, Bob!”

I haven’t really told anyone else what I am doing, aside from my thread on T-Nation, where I have found the people to be very supportive and informative, and the “support” threads are great too. I keep myself accountable through my daily thread post.

Good job so far. You can tell the difference in the pictures for sure. Keep going and no matter the end results be proud you stuck it out till the end- most don’t.

As to the scale not changing much- your initial loss was a lot of water so weeks two and three the loss will be much less- but it’s all fat so be happy about that. Typical low-carb dieting effects.

eengrms76,

I’m glad you can see a difference, frankly I didn’t think the pictures looked too different, and I feltt just slightly discouraged looking at them.

I have no intention of backing down - it’s the halfway mark, which means that all I have to do in order to finish is what I have already proven to myself that I can do. I could not live with myself if I wussed out.

Thanks!,

Wakiki

Yes, you have to finish what you’ve started.

I think you are doing great Bro! I can see the difference in your pics also.

Don’t worry about the scale and focus on your mirror and tape measurements. That is what’s really changing.

Only dedicated lifters make it to the end and I have no doubts about your dedication at all.

Stay strong Wakiki!

Hey dude. I noticed that every morning you do a walk at 3.5mph for 60min. I had great success with my v-diet but i did my walks uphill at 6.5mph for 40min. Maybe i was going too fast but hey i couldn’t argue with my results.
