Ronny Rockel with or without striated glutes should win the show. I hope Jay Cutler can take one more he dsereved the Olympia in 2001 and seems like a great champion and grizzled veteran.
That is the downside of bodybuilding you have such a limited time of your body peaking. Though Jay likely knows more about posing, on stage presence and how to prepare himself, his body is simply running out of gas. Unlike say baseball where a guy like Hank Aaron can show a young guy up by having so much expercience.
what?
experience plays a hug role in bodybuilding. Stage presence…posing…etc. You only have a limited time to ‘peak’ every so often…years competing doesn’t have much to do with that. I’m sure every pro has a ‘I was my best at’ show, but that doesn’t mean that a guy like ronnie or flex wheeler can come out of retirement and still ‘peak’ for a show. Age plays a big role for most unless your a guy like Toney Freeman, but Jay is still young enough where he can still look great for a show. I just don’t think he has the body that the judges are looking for.
I don’t think Ronnie Rockel has even won a pro show yet, why do you think he should deserve the O? Rockel has a very aesthetic physique… It’s all opinion, but I was wondering what brought you to that one? lol
DG
Just my opinion I really like his physique. I think if the IFBB made it mandotory for posing trunks to cover the butt he’d win alot more shows, and flex wheeler would not have won as many shows. I think there is a limited time Flex or Ronnie can’t comeback. Your body can only grow so long and even with steriods they can only do so much. There is only so many years you can tear your body down with the intensity of a proffesionaly bodybuilder and grow it back bigger and stronger until your body doesn’t heal back.

fair enough on rockel. I think he has a killer physique as well…Its just not every day you hear his name in the mix for who’s going to win the O know what I mean? so I wanted to get your opinion. lol
as far as the term ‘peak’ it doesnt mean age nor experience, or how long somebody has been training. I agree you can only do this sport for soo long before your body has enough.
The term ‘peak’ for a show means lining up the stars and praying to God that you carb load properly, water deplete, etc. Drugs, nutrition, training…it all comes into play. Many say that people of that caliber and size can only truly ‘peak’ once per year. Meaning that if they ‘peak’ for a show and then compete again in a short time frame chances are they won’t be able to ‘peak’ again. Altho people like our current Mr. O DJAX have proven people wrong by peaking in any show he does no matter what…thats why he’s known as the blade. lol
As far as Jay finding his peak again, I think it’s possible. If he pulls a Dennis James and doesn’t worry about size and trims down a bit even sacrificing some muscle for an extremely peeled/dry look then he still has it in him. Unfortunately the body altering changes that things like insulin/GH etc for the most part cannot be undone…Jay may always have to pull the blocky caveman look from too many years of trying to play the mass game.
Idk we will see come september.
Keep in mind that altho Jay has been competing since a teen…he is only in his mid-30’s…Freeman is in his 40’s and DJAX is turning 40…so I don’t think it’s age or how long they’ve been doing it…just moreso what each man has done to their physique since turning pro.
I believe Jay is one of the last of the ‘mass monsters’ altho Kai is knocking on that doorstep…I personally like him keeping the aesthetic side…but to each his own
Wow T-Nation I think you should hire somebody like myself and a few others on this forum to cover the shows…because to be honest all of your ‘bodybuilding coverage’ blows for those of us who actually follow the sport…
only playing unless you take me seriously
LOL!
