Zombie Apocalypse Preparation Log

Where I live is pretty flat but this is behind my new office building. This area here is really hilly, sucks in winter, every direction is a 45* hill and we’re at the bottom.

I still cannot catch my breathe, way out of shape.

^ Great job Dday, yea its humbling to step up to doing more cardio.

You’re not kidding. Taking a casual stroll here and there isn’t the same thing as really getting after it. Sitting here now I’m glad I did it and will continue as long as the weather holds. I haven’t done crap for cardio since the warrior dash.

Great Deadlift numbers. Good luck with your goals.

Love the title of your log!

My new BFF or biggest nightmare. Ran this pig 7 times a bit ago, lungs are burning, legs are fried, I feel like I want to gag and that flemmy stuff keeps oozing from the inside of mouth. Yes sir, that was either awesome of stupid.
Plan to do this 2-3 times a week when it doesn’t interfear with my training. [/quote]

Im fairly new to this “conditioning” work myself, but will say its the best thing Ive done for myself in a long time. The good news is each time you tackle that bastard hill it will be a little easier than the time before (if you are somewhat consistent).

You will also reap the benefits while lifting, you will slay those squats!

whats conditioning?

Those Zumba classes look fun.

Hey thats the “nice” name G gives it for cardio lol I just dont view epic leg/lung burn as cardio…

Git just for the record Ive never done Zumba, not on purpose anyway.

You strike me as the type that isn’t afraid to listen to some music and shake it while making dinner. Bustin’ moves all over the kitchen.

Good question, I’m in the dark over that one.

I hate conditioning but I know it’s important for my general health. The good thing about things like hill sprints is that it’s over quickly. I mean it sucks but it’s not 30 -40 minutes of suck and/or boredom.

james

JC-Thank you

Colin- Love me some zombies.

UP- Its funny how much worse I’ve felt since finishing the warrior dash and stopped doing any real conditioning. Joints starting to ache and
just generally feel a little run down/lazy. Hopefully the weather stays mild long enough to get some good use of the hill.

Conditioning- you know, high rep squats.

James- So true, I think it took about 15 minutes to get dress warm up and get done. So much easier then treadmill and way more interesting.

Love the outdoor walking myself, one thing that keeps me relatively sane !!. Strange how people discount just going for a good long or hard walk as not being a part of training !!.

Hill looks a good one, doesn’t have to be running though–my favourite hard conditioning is uphill load carries…big old rucksack and some heavy firewood does the business for me.

EDIT (KB question over on james thread) i notice that pavel tatsouline reccomends starting with a 1 pood (16kg) and a 1 1/2 pood (24kg) kb for an adult man. I swing with a 16kg and often start/finish a squat routine with goblet squatting the 24kg, might seem really light but tis effective.

I’m with you on the long walks, they’re great. When it’s not cold and dark I like to take them in the morning. Since we’re getting on to winter around here it’s no fun to get out in the am, not to mention the coyotes that are making their way to my area. Didn’t use to bother me hearing them at night then a few weeks ago I saw a small pack about 1/2 mile from my house. That’s getting a little too close.
On the KB’s, I found that iron masters sells an adjustable set from 25-80lbs for $200+ $50 shipping, that is cheaper than the 2 I was looking at. Thanks for the weight suggestion, gotta start somewhere and that seems about right for me.

Order placed Not Found: Ironmaster LLC

That KB kit looks interesting. I’m looking forward to hearing how you like it.

Delivery scheduled for Saturday so likely Monday. I’ll give a full report once I get them.

Last night legs

Squats
barx10
135x5
185x3
225x3

Working
250x5
280x3
310x5 (PR)

FF 1:00

BBB squat
160 3x10

Had to get my son from daycare so cut everything short.

Haven’t done anything over 300 in a bit so 310x5 is some kind of PR. They were ugly but got the job done. Couldn’t really find the groove.

After the meet I am going to have to increase the reps somewhat on my main lifts, I have been talking with Rick (Fischer) and the Pendlay/Starr 5x5 may do the trick, nice work man…those plate loaded KBs are awesome.
