Thanks Joe and Pete.
Joe, I pull sumo style and it seems to spare my low back. I tried conventional deads last night during my warm up and didn’t like them at all.
Nice pull Eco!
Are you now on 5/3/1?
Thanks LS and FF. Yep back on the 5/3/1. Wendler really got it right with this program. I’m right in line with his ideas about training.
eco, when you do 5/3/1, do you round your weights like normal. Meaning…if 85% of your max is 401.3#, would you round that to 400#? And, maybe, 403.5# up to 405#?
Probably gonna ask this question on a couple of different threads cause a lot of you have gone to 5/3/1. Is it just for powerlifting or for overall strength? Can it be applied to any type lift? Are all you guys moving to a compound in Waco (kidding, sort of). Seems to have added a little bit of enthusiasm back into your lifting.

As Jim Wendler puts it - it’s for plain getting “cock-strong.” There’s a 5/3/1 thread over in strength sports (now called Powerlifting) where JW answers questions about the program. That one may have been asked. I would imagine it could be applied to other lifts, since it’s really just a form of periodization.

To hot in Waco. Somewhere more north for me.
You could use any exercise in this program. Cleans, front squat, snatches…not just powerlifting. I like it because the ideas behind the program make sense.
Us wacko’s of the 21’s century prefer Coeur d’Alene Idaha. 5/3/1-men (instead of Freemen, get it?) Unite
to answer hel’s question, jim says to use the 4 main lifts that he lays out because the are best for overall strenght. if you like the olympic lifts, do them before the main lift, ie snatches before deadlifts, and cleans before squats. Use the same 5/3/1 reps and percentages for those as with the base lifts.

That’s exactly what I do.

<2.5lbs, round down. >2.5lbs., round up. Also, rounding may cause you to lift the same weight two months in a row on the bench and press. But I think this is ok, cause its a long-term program.
Edit: = or > 2.5 lbs., round up.

Exactly. Thanks JJ. Its hard to get out of the ‘I want it now’ mentality and think long term.

Yes it is. Patience is not a virtue I possess in abundance. I am gonna have to find some though.
Thanks eco, jjack.

bench 245x3,275x3,315x5
Got called away for about an hour. My first 3 sets of bench bothered my left shoulder but when I came back the shoulder felt much better. The second go round with bench felt much better.
1.bench 245x3,275x3,315x3-3-2(10 sec rests)
2.chinup BW 5x4sets
1.bench 205 10x5
2.chinup BW 5,5,3,3,35 second negative chinup
krok row 100x20 each arm
push up 30 reps
1.overhead DB tri ext 3 sets(really stretched at bottom)
2.curls 3 sets
I feel so weak. This weight loss stuff is for the birds.
Nice work on the benchs and krocs!
I’ve been working on the “Eco Challenge”! - Chins and pushups. I’ve been getting in 20 and 100 in sets.
Great work Mathineer! Like the name of the challenge. Pushups and pullups are great exercises. My lats and pecs ache from doing them yesterday.
Low carb diet is driving me crazy. Really cracked today and bought a bottle of booze and ate everything in site. For my sanity I may add milk and fruits back in and just stay away from sugar and breads. Why can’t I just be fat and healthy?? Still weigh 260-262. But have had several drinks and may change my mind in the morning.
From the looks of your training logs, I will wish I was as strong as you when you hit 240.
If I dropped that kind of weight, I would be as weak as a kitten. Good job staying strong Steve.
Dan, you’re a kind man. Lets face it I’m a weak pussy. But I feel great. Other then my left knee I feel 25. If it wasn’t for the damn wife and kids I’d be working out every day. But they have become important to me and they like me around. Go figure.

cleans 140x3,160x3,185x10
squat 335x3,385x3,425x10
front squat 225x10,315x3,225x3(right knee had a lot of pain so I shut it down)
BW lunges and plyo jumps 3 sets
1.calf raise 2 plates 30 seconds x 3 sets
2.ab rolls 135x10,6,6
Limited time today so I finished this in 35 minutes. Everything felt great until the third set of front squats. Front squats really push the limits of my flexibility.
260 lbs today.
