Thanks for the sled info. Very helpful. I was looking to get a tire to flip and hit with a sledge anyway, and I know a few places to look for old tractor tires.
i always chuckle when i read that people actually flip tires and beat on tires with sledgehammers…for a workout. i grew up working on a farm where i did all this shit just to get dinner at night. i was swinging a splitting maul and sledge by age ten. the thought of doing that shit now for shits and giggles makes me laugh.
too many years of manual labor under my belt. shit… i spent the good part of today framing a room in my basement. the room’s too narrow to build the walls and then stand them up so i’m building my top plates, using a plumb bob to find the bottom plate and then putting my studs in with a sledge. i guess that’s my GPP for the day:)
Kinda makes me laugh to. My granddad had a house-moving company (ie, pick up the house and move it) that employed most of the family when I was a kid, and I swung the sledge my fair share growing up. And I hated it at the time. Now I sit behind a desk for the better part of the day getting soft and fat. Maybe I am just subconsciously trying to get in touch with my roots.

find those roots bro. don’t let that office kill your spirit. office jobs are the root of all evil.
I’ve thought the same thing about a lot of this GPP work. I built foundations for four summers. Talk about GPP, I was ripped, tan and had hair (said while shedding a tear). Every fall my dad and I would spit cords of wood to heat the house. But now I could weigh 400 lbs with the job I have. So all this stuff we used to do is now GPP.

What an observation… Strange, I still dont want to sawmill like my Dad and Granddaddy did. I kind of like the automation.
Same topic, Eco, your earlier post regarding doing hard labor for a living and being ripped, full head of hair… well, I remember being 21, 100 degrees out and building a stack stone wall. The next day was my cut off for my college regestration. I was debating, up until about 1 pm that day, if I was going to register for classes…
But also, as a side note, I was so young, ripped, and so damned good looking, I probably could have latched onto a good sugar momma and never had a care in the world:)
After watching the Tate video again and reading some Wendler articles I was pumped to get home and lift. Two more weeks and I’m doing a regular bench cycle. Hopefully the CGB will have helped.
I was just reading that elite status in raw powerlifting for the 275 lb class is a 1654 total. I’m looking for a meet in the fall now. I want to hit 1654.

Your CGBs are outstanding. Raw elite is a good goal for you to shot for. I had to look. I think I’m a master’s II. That’s a 1162 for elite. Don’t get stronger, get older.
Holy freakin’ CG bench Eco! Lord love a duck! Geez… I wish…
I would be interested in what the Master total for elite raw would be too… I may have to look it up. I don’t think they have a “RAW” division of anything up here in Canuck land.
My totals right now (without having seriously training and tested squat in awhile) are probably between 1500 and 1550. I am starting to look a bit ahead after this meet, looking for the next point of inspiration.

You have my same attention span problem. I should be totally focused on 8/1, but I am already as anxious for the next training cycle as I am for the meet.
Soldog,I just googled elite powerlifting.
JW, see if I can train wisely for a bit and not break something.
Bunny, I figure my total to be right around the same as what yours is.
Pete, I just looked for meets in the NH area. I didn’t look at federations. There is a full powerlifting meet one hour away in December and a couple in Vermont around the same time.
I’ve never seriously train my squat as heavy as I could. I get nervous unracking 500+ by myself in the basement. Got to get over that. That’s what the safeties are for on the rack, right? So I’m hoping my squat has a lot of room to grow.
