Are you still trying to stay at 160? Gaining weight may help you get that pull up. For most people, there is only so much weight that 160 lbs is going to be able to get off of the ground. I seem to remember you saying that you are working with a coach so Im assuming that your technique is adequate.

BTW, the Chris Crocker thing was funny.

I’m moving up to 181 next year, and 198 as a senior. I don’t want to be a super scrawny shit going into college haha. My technique is decent. but there’s probably something wrong with it when I max. I deadlift sumo.

I used to pull sumo because I felt like it let me use more weight, but I switched back to conventional one day on a whim and was surprised at how much easier it is. I know some guys pull one way specifically in competition but train both conventional and sumo. Your pull will most likely go up when you move to 181, thats for sure.

yeah I hope so. I usually do conventional for my first two sets. I’m probably pulling it out of my ass but I feel like I’m generating a lot more force in my hips when I DL conventional. I’ll try pulling conventional next week.

today:
snatch:
65x3
85x3
95x3
105x2

Squat:
135x5
185x3
225x2
245x1
225x2

My lower back caves with the heavier sets. I’ve had 3 plates on box squats and been fine. THe fuck! I could deffinately squat more if my back was able to stay straight.

Having trouble keeping your back straight? Perhaps youve found whats holding your deadlift back…

It would seem like it. But when I’m deadlifting it feels like my back is good. and my hammies are my weak point. I’ll keep up with the squats until I get them right. Being where I am now, if the squat goes up, the deadlift is bound to follow. I’m hoping it will have pretty good carryover to the deadlift. The best part about today was not feeling like I was going to split down the middle like last week, from the groin pains. I did bodyweight squats everyday leading up to today, and I think that helped. Just something to remember if The same hing ever happens.

Can you post a video of your squat/deadlift?

My dad doesn’t trust me with his digital camera. I’ve already asked.

you haven’t been around here much, what happened?

and… why the new account?

Ever read this article?

Another thing I would consider is not deadlifting heavy every week. Try doing ME deads once-twice every month instead of every week.

I seriously LOL’d when I read this. Even though you’ve come to some sticking points in your training, I’m sure you will bust through soon enough. Just stay at it, eat big and clean, and keep training hard, and you’ll get there zep.

Like I said before, the fact that you are more dedicated to lifting weights than 99% of all other high schoolers (athletes included) shows a lot for your character, drive, and desire. Stay at it, and good luck in school.

Thanks. It gets sickening seeing the ridiculous shit in the weightroom. When there is FREE information on the internet. Which is something nearly everyone has.

Those guys had like 4 plastic OLY training plates on each side of the bar doing bench presses. it adds up to like 10 pounds total. And we have 2.5s in our weightroom!

some people just shouldn’t be in the weightroom.

should I drop my deadlift day and alternate deads and box squats on mondays weekly?

It would look something like:

Monday:
Backsquats
snatch
good mornings
calves

Tuesday:
Me bench press
Military press
inclines
DB rows
chins

Thursday:
Deads/boxsquats
cleans
calves
(can I squat on this day too or not?)

Friday:
RE bench
Jerks
DB rows
chins

does it look good? I can’t imagine only squatting once a week though, even if it is every other week.
