These guys have been at the top of my list for quite some time:
Joe Defranco
Martin Rooney
James Smith
Buddy Morris
Louie Simmons
Dave Tate
Eric Cressey
Christian Thibaudeau
Charlie Francis
Here are some others that aren’t household names but they do produce athletes:
Mark Mclaughlin (ptconline.net)
Cory Englebert (xtremetrainingsystems.com)
Landon Evans (Illinois State University)
Jon Davis (davistrainingsystems.com)

Hanley,
Sorry for being ignorant but what happened? Can you elaborate and what were the actual results? Thanks.[/quote]

The lowest any competitor from Russia finished was 3rd, and the women’s and men’s team each had six competitors who placed first for a perfect team score of 72. They also broke six world records and won the “best lifter” award (based on Wilks points) for both sexes.
Out of the ones I pay attention to:
SIFF- nobody else even comes close (sorry other guys)
Cressey- thoughtful, insightful, often says things that I intuitively agree with
Barry Ross- great stuff for speed training. i wish he was better known
DeFranco- doesn’t argue so well, but a great coach nonetheless and i’d follow his programs any day
Coaches whose stuff I find no use for: Poliquin, Baggett

Haha cheers, saved me going lookign for actual results and details ![]()
Basically they spanked the entire world.
In no particular order:
-Bill Starr
-Mark Rippetoe
-Lon Kilgore
-Dan John
-Glenn Pendlay
For Powerlifting:
Louie
Vogelpohl
Bernadelli
Tate
Wendler
DeFranco
I can’t believe it took that long for Bill Starr to be listed. Good job, HK ULTRA

As a Poliquin fan, I’m curious why you think that. I’m not attacking you, I’m just curious why you think that? I definetely agree with you on Barry Ross, though with some shortcomings, he’s very underrated.
Oh, and my coaches:
Kelly Baggett:
Nobody speaks more clearly when it comes to increasing the vertical jump, everybody understands him
Poliquin:
Lots of different variation, a lot of fresh training ideas, walks the walk, though sometimes a bit vague
Charlie Francis:
When it comes to speed, I’d trust him anyday. I’d love to read his book Speedtrap someday, I’m now basing my opinion on the CF forum
Barry Ross:
Can’t get any more simple than his way of training, though controversial, his stuff works
Mike Mentzer: Doh!

Vogelpohl? Do you mean Chuck Vogelpohl? Don’t get me wrong, the guy is crazy strong but he seems to be a man of few words. As I understnad it, being a great strength athlete doesn’t always mean you can be a great strength coach but it definitely helps.
Well that’s the problem. He only talks to people he knows. That man has personally helped more lifters achieve elite totals than any one I know. I wish he was more vocal, but he doesn’t care about being in the coaching pool. Someday in the next few years he may step out but while he’s competing, he’ll keep to himself as always.

It is really beyond me how people (and I dont mean you specifically 3whites, since you’re certainly not the only one who listed him) still list this ass clown as one of their top strenth coaches when he writes crap like this:
“A lot of world records in the bench press are broken following a heavy set of bent-over rows performed in the warm-up room.”

and check it out at the 3rd Q in the link above if you dont believe me
I mean seriously, when somebody lies to me about one thing, I end up not trusting them about ANYthing. He’s written nonsense in some of his columns before, but stuff I was skeptical about, not downright BS. A lot? Name one - In fact, what feds is he even in the warmup rooms of witnessing these supposed warmups? If he had written that a lot of HIS athletes were breaking PERSONAL records I’d have believed it - but he said WORLD and that brings teh bullshit to a whole other level.
Even though this coach has not been published a great deal, I think his clients are in “pretty good” shape.
Mike Woicik was named the Patriots strength and conditioning coach on Bill Belichick’s staff on Feb. 16, 2000. The 30-year coaching veteran is now in his 18th season in the NFL and has initiated strength and conditioning programs that have contributed to the success of six Super Bowl Championship teams, three with the Patriots and three with the Dallas Cowboys.
Woicik’s six Super Bowl rings are more than any player or head coach in NFL history has earned. Woicik is a twotime winner of the Professional Football Strength and Conditioning Society’s Coach of the Year Award, earning the honor in 1992 and 2004.
I also take a little bit of everyone from this sit:
CW
Staley
Boyle
CT(pre-bodybuilding)
John Davies
Pavel
Louie Simmons(even though he stars in an ifomercial with the word core)

Agreed, but don’t forget he brought a lot of good stuff too…
Louie Simmons
David Tate
Joe DeFranco
Christian Thibaudeau
Eric Cressey
Tony Gentilcore
Michael Boyle
Jeremy Frisch
Waterbury however just pisses me off.

Poliquin is intensely disliked by some because of his business dealings. Some of these fellows also think he’s pretty full of crap on a lot of stuff.
I cant believe im the first to say Ross Enamait. I wouldnt get to no. 2 on the list coz Ross woulda killed me.
Yes, but is Ross a pure strength coach or a conditioning coach?
Of course if we’re talking pure strength then the Bulgarian/Greek etc weightlifting coaches are probably gonna come out near the top too.

Bulgarian weightlifting’s in a bit of a mess now that The Butcher is gone, although whether that’s down to coaching style or the fact that there’s no investment in it anymore I don’t know.
The Greeks have Leonidas as assistant coach now, and they seem to be producing some quality Greek lifters rather than Albanian or Georgian ones.
David Rigert’s looks to be doing a hell of a job with the Russians at the moment - Chigishev, Klokov, Konstantinov, Ediev - all cracking lifters, especially Chigishev. Total monster.
