Vocals: Matt Barlow (Iced Earth)
Guitar: Kirk Hammett ('Tallica)
Guitar: Dave Mustaine (Megadeth)
Bass: Joey DeMaio (Manowar)
Keyboards: Flake (Rammstein)
Drums: Raymond Herrera (Fear Factory)
My Metal supergroup;
Vocals; Rob Flynn (Machine Head)
Guitar; Kerry King (Slayer)
Guitar; Dino Cazares (ex-Fear Factory)
Bass; Jason Newstead (ex-Metallica)
Drums; Igor Cavalera (ex-Sepultura)
I left out Dimebag because he was lost, as well as Cliff Burton. Chuck Billy of Testament would also be a kick ass vocalist for my line-up, but i think Rob edges him out by a little bit.

Here’s how my ideal Metal band would look:
Vocals/Bass: Tom Araya
Lead Guitar: Kerry King
Rhythm Guitar: Jeff Hanneman
Drums: Dave Lombardo
Now that would be pretty bad ass.
I’ve seen them twice since Lombardo came back, they’re not far off being ideal, I’ll give you that.
Vocals - Layne Staley
Guitar - Randy Rhoades/ John Frusciante
Bass - Roger Waters
Drums- John Bonham
Wait a minute, people are picking a producer that’s not Rick Rubin. And Mutt Lang? The guy married Shania Twain - I know she’s hot, but that is still far from rock.

I dont care who Mutt Lang married, check his portfolio. The guy IS metal. He produced the “Back in Black” album, nuff’ said.

I didn’t specify but seeing as Albini is in the band I’m sure he could be roped into producing. Rubin is pretty damn sick but Albini produced:
The first ‘Jesus Lizard’ EP
ALL ‘Big Black’ releases
Tweez by ‘Slint’
as well as releases by:
JSBX
Melt Banana
Oxbow
Whitehouse
PJ Harvey
Nirvana
The Pixies
Dirty Three
Neurosis
Don Caballero
I could go on for ages, but I think that list alone speaks for itself.

My initial thoughts too!!
But play by the rules C’Dub, what is your lineup if you can only pick one person from each band?
EDIT: Oh yeah you did already, my bad. I’m very stoned at the minute…

This is the Justice League of America of metal!!!
Bass: Eric Avery (early Jane’s Addiction- listen to the Nothing’s Shocking album)
Drums: Danny Carey (Tool)
Guitar1: Zakk Wylde
Guitar2: Page Hamilton (Helmet riff-monster- I prefer the pre-Betty era)
Vocals: Layne Staley (Alice in Chains)/Mike Patton
Surprised no one’s mentioned Phil Anselmo on vocals.
Going more blues rock than metal here:
Lead Guitar: Billy Gibbons/SRV
Guitar: SRV/Billy Gibbons
Bass: Flea
Drums: Dave Grohl
Vocals: Who needs fucking vocals with this group? It would just get in the way.
EDIT:
Besides - if they had the itch to sing, Grohl, Gibbons, and Stevie could just take turns.

I’d let the voc plus the two guitars lead an 80s reunion which would be backed up by the technically impeccable rythmical remaining duet
Rock:
Vocals - Chris Cornell
Guitar - Mike Einziger
Bass - Flea
Drums - Jon Theodore
Metal:
Vocals - Daniel Gildenlow
Guitar 1 - John Petrucci
Guitar 2 - Rafael Bittencourt
Bass - Juan Alderette
Drums - Mike Portnoy
I agree with Rain Jack and Freaky Styley on their choices (using members of the band Tool).
Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth) on vocals and guitar.
Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) on drums
Pretty much just Opeth.
By the way, here is something that may be of interest to some here:
“In other news, the rumored collaboration between Opeth frontman Mikael Akerfeldt, Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree) and Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) will probably become reality in a near future. The project will maintain a low key and interviews will be sparse. This will be a sheer musical communion that its members wish to keep clear of the “supergroup” hype.”
I read about that a couple months ago. Portnoy’s projects are hit or miss for me. He’s an incredible drummer, but I’m not crazy about the stuff he’s written.
Singer: Dio or plant
Guitar 1: Hendrix
Guitar 2: the guy from Satyricon
Bass: John Paul Jones (good keyboard and song writing ability)
Drums: Frost (satyricon)
Im not sure what inspired me to put classic rock n roll musicians with the Satyricon Lineup…

As a drummer, he is pretty much the guy I try and emulate, his influences are pretty varied, so some of his stuff isn’t to everyone’s taste.
Check out the Rush covers project “Cygnus and The Sea Monsters” he did with Paul Gilbert and the bloke from Watchtower on vocals. That was a rock supergroup if ever there was one.
