Your Imaginary Protégé

Well @FlatsFarmer he might have big quads relative too the rest of him …the irony is and you cant see it from the video is the Little son of a bitch has very and I do mean very developed glutes. Put it bluntly “Babies got Back” Which as you accurately pointed out is being by passed .

Sent the video to a coach im friendly with and trust ,basically he point out a simple solution im over looking… Widen his stance slightly. DUH on my part… actually after looking at the video for the 101st time I relies his freaking stance is slightly closer than what hes been using under my watch. Than to add insult to injury I asked my son if he feels anything in his hips/glutes when he squats. His answer was “not really , just mostly in my quads”…ARGGGGHHHHH , THUD!!(the sound I made when I slammed my head against the nearest wall.

So basically what going to happen (I hope) is my son when he goes off to school this week. Will start lifting with the coaches Crew that I mentioned from time to time since he is only located a few miles from the college .

After studying, of course!

Young athletic dudes always go quad dominant.

Is your 2nd son into lifting much, yet?

Not outside of Football he hasnt, Funny thing is hes actually more explosive than his brother and faster now… hes sorta been a late bloomer. I actually think he might surpass his brother if he got serious about lifting.

Ignore the over excited mom…lol

Well @FlatsFarmer after finally having a guy I know jump into the party ( little bastard listen to him better than me go figure), we FINALLY got the little SOB squatting more with his hips,

Sometimes your protégée listens to what you tell him better than you listen to your own advice and ends up with a better physique than you do lol

The padawan has become the master  Perfect reminder that discipline often beats knowledge. I know what I need to do to get into the single digit body fat, but I’ve never been disciplined enough to beat my junk food addiction. But now I’m chomping at the bit to be a lean, strong ass mofo and I’m hungry enough for it(pun definitely intended) to pick abs over pizza lmao

Looking good! Things look more comfortable, and “locked in” at the bottom, with tons of POP at the top.

Besides the slightly wider stance, did your friend adjust much else? Did your son do anything special in training?

Well this is going to be a long winded reply so bear with me… As I stated in this thread I was less than please with his squat going into the last meet. After he sent me a video prior to Thanksgiving of his top set on squats it was the “straw the broke the camel’s back”. (BUTT WINK FROM HELL not to mention he was going so super low that I thought he was trying to pick an apple off the ground with his ass)I pretty much had enough and it was time for a change regardless if he liked it or not!

Let’s just say when he was home for the holiday I pretty much worked the crap out of him on form for 3 long sessions. But him back on a parallel box (he hated it) to 1. Get him focused on sitting back and engaging the hips in the movement .2 Reestablish mentally what parallel feels like… (His ATG style has made parallel feel super high to him) Let’s just say there was a little friction between us over it.
Following week he sends me another video slight improvement still getting loose in the bottom.
So this past weekend had the chance to run over to the guy I knows place. Took numb nuts for the whole purpose of tweaking things…. Worked great my oldest listen (amazing how things work between a father and son…. He half way tunes me out, but someone else tells him the same thing he’s all ears)
Regarding any changes not a whole Lot from my buddies end. Just getting his hips line up the bar more on his set up than I was enforcing. Made him lower the bar down lower on his back… (He wouldn’t for me)
Also slightly widen his grip on the bar…. That was pretty much it. Mostly it was a matter of him mentally getting the feel for what we wanted to see out of him form wise. Along with clearing up any misunderstanding in that regards. He now has a better understanding of what I mean by sit back and open up your hips now.
The only tweak in his actual training now is that I threw in Box squats as a secondary movement on his Deadlift day to work on form, nothing heavy just a few sets at 70% of a Training max.
Along with adding some hip mobility work for him that’s about it.

I would tell my ideal protege to bench and squat 2-4x a week and deadlift 1-2x a week with moderate weights for a moderate number of reps and sets while eating a paleo diet.

Great answer, I always like the details.

It’s cool that even though he was kind of pissed, he still did the work and sent you the videos. Like he still “Responds to Coaching.”

too a point, Defiantly listens to my “buddy” better. Part of the reason why because my sons not stupid. He knows hes got it lucky when his old man can get him some secondary coaching from a former IPF golden medial winner who has three different girls whom have all qualified and will be competing in the Arnold along with one who qualified for worlds.

That’s a damn good looking squat. I would be a proud sum bitch if I taught someone to squat that beautifully. Well done, as well to padawan.

Thanks…BUT im not going to pat myself on the back until I see what his form looks like at 90% of a true max.
