It’s more likely to be your muscles aren’t used to the amount of work you’re demanding of them. Hope you’re chugging back a protein shake after the workout
Keep us updated on everything, like Renton said, it’s always good to have another brit on here (just avoid the ‘Sex and the Male Animal’ forum, wouldn’t want to corrupt you at all
I like making protein smoothies - just after a workout I can tolerate the blood glucose spike without a problem (I’m diabetic).
I put 300ml milk, 2 scoops of powder, a banana, apple, grapes, whatever nice fruit comes to hand up to about 1/2 a pound, a few chunks of ice and then blitz the lot in a blender. Tastes great.
Everyday I mix one up in the am that consists of:
2 cups egg whites
2 cups frozen strawberries
2 scoops Metabolic Drive low carb (banana)
2 scoops ON whey protein (strawberry)
4 tablespoons milled flax
4 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 cup oats
1.5 cups milk
10 grams creatine
10 grams glutamine
I divide this up into 3 shaker cups and drink spaced out througout the day. I must admit im sure that there are better tasting recipes out there, but this is well balanced for my daily needs regarding protein, fat and fibre.
Im not suggesting you do the same as I am. I would split something like this up into 4-5 servings for someone your size.
I just bung some protein powder in a shaker, fill with water, shake and drink.
Probably not the best, but I have one after my early morning gym session then concentrate on ‘solid’ foods for the rest of the day. May try a couple of the ones above though, they look interesting and I assume they’d keep in the fridge for a few hours no problem.
I found this site with a few recommended meal plans and the like, if anyone else is interested. I might publish a ‘meal plan’ soon for beginners that you guys could rip to shreds for me ;p myprotein.co.uk/your-goals/health-and-well-being/
hey guys I’m one of Laura’s friends who apparently take the piss out of her alot… anyway just wanted to give my words of encouragement to her, get to the gym Laura!
oh btw, roual, I’ve been using myprotein for a while, it all seems amazingly cheap, but they have test results available on the site to show it’s quality stuff, and tastes pretty good, I buy it cos it’s all I can afford.</off topic>

Hey Leeby - welcome to T-Nation!
Now we have an on the spot ally to make sure Laura gets her ass to the gym and keeps her form good! (I’m sure she will anyway!)
Lets hope so, she could barely make the stairs today, so it looks like her weight free stuff is going well so far!
I’m glad she’s started this thread and given me a reason to join, I’ve been an avid reader of the site for the last year or so but never had a reason to post before!

well hey, it beats most of the other new posters who’ve never read a word in their life and then proceed to ask all the questions they should have read about. Good to have another contributing member.
Hey leeby, welcome, good to see yet another Brit joining, we need more on here (also, we’ve got the first four posts on this page).
I’ve heard a few good things about myProtein, but I’m always skeptical about results posted on a companies own website, I’d rather see or hear about some independent tests or personal experiences.

okay, I only have a mini fat detector. I guessed when I got it that it wouldn’t be really accurate but I thought it would just give me an idea.
I intend on getting checked properly as soon as possible.[/quote]
Thought as much. They are highly innacurate depending on how much you are hydrated at the time.
At this stage I wouldn’t worry about bf% at all - just go by the mirror test. If you start to like what you see then you are doing good.
Btw - as a new T-Nation member I feel it is my duty to inform you that the ideal way of measuring bf% is to post a picture of yourself holding a training shoe. If you can tell me why without help then you win a prize!
I was built just like you until I started training several years ago. Stay in the gym and you will get stronger and add muscle which looks fantastic on our small frames.
