You Sure Ali Would Beat Tyson?

Spoken like someone who grew up playing “Punchout.” You clearly don’t know about Ali.

Ali was a technician, a strong puncher, a brilliant thinker, and physically above all else dude could take a punch like no-one else.

I saw the documentary “When They Were Kings” a while back, I’m sure a lot of other guys here have seen the film as well. It documented the fight between Ali and Foreman in Africa. They showed George hitting the heavy bag and when he’d throw a cross to the “body” of the bag it would lift his portly trainer (who was standing behind the bag) off the ground.

All of the hype, Ali’s mouth, as well as the delay of the fight worked against George, but he was ready when the bell rang and went after Ali like a lion round after round. Ali stood in there as long as it took for George to tire. Often times taking a shot to his ribs that would have knocked the wind out of a Brahma Bull.

Then, when he recognized George was wearing down he attacked and had him knocked out rather handily.

He’d do the same to Tyson, only quicker. The only thing Tyson would do is leave his mouthguard in the the corner and try to bite Ali’s nipple off or some shit.

I’m so tired of all the talk about Tyson on this site. he self destructed, didn’t have the tools necessary to be a champion or a hero or a positive influence to kids. He’s far from anything resembling a T-man, and all the Tyson cock sucking around here needs to stop. He and Don King’s involvement in boxing has almost ruined the sport.

Nowadays the best boxing we get to see is a reality show hosted by Rocky or Sugar Ray??? The next best fight we get to watch is the one that will be “performed” on Rocky 6? Jesus Christ!

You guys hear what Tyson’s up to now? He’s going to work at the “Stud Farm” for Heidi Flies as a Man-whore in Nevada. Way to go Champ…

That type of math never works. Styles make fights.

Absolutly agree with you. Both in their prime Tyson would of took him inside 6. No doubt.

I would give Tyson the benefit of the doubt in his prime. Obviously Ali was a much better fighter on many levels. It always bugged me that Tyson never fought Foreman which would have been the real test depite the difference in age. How about Ali vs. Lennox Lewis?

Theres an interview on youtube were ali says he is scared of tyson, so I think tyson would win on that alone.

I didn’t get a chance to read all the posts so if someone already mentioned this, sorry.

Ali already fought and defeated a “Tyson like” foe in Joe Frazier. Frazier was someone who would stalk his opponent and unleash some very nasty blows on him. Ali had a tough time with him but he did beat him 2 out of 3 times.

I’m not saying Frazier was better than Tyson. Tyson might be the better of the two but they had similar styles. Ali is da man and would have beaten Tyson.

Frazier carried a deep hate for Ali, as a result of all the cruel taunts and jibes made against him. This gave him an edge that allowed him to ‘rock Ali’s world’ as you put it. Tyson is a child, capable of petulant rage no doubt, but not the kind of sustained, yet controlled fury that Smokin’ Joe dished out…
Bushy - Just had to give you props for the “petulant rage” line. Awesome.

How in the world do you figure any professional welterweight/middleweight beats a heavyweight in an actual fight?

Tyson never beat anyone worth a damn; and some of the guys that beat him wern’t exactly the best fighters of all time. To name a few Buster Dougeless and Holyfield. One the other hand, Ali beat Foreman, Frasier (who I like beter than Ali), Liston, etc. THERE IS NO COMPARISON!
Buster Douglas did not beat Tyson because he was a better fighter. Tyson is bi-polar. Have you forgotten about this?

When he fought Douglas, he was pretty clearly on a “low” or “down” cycle. If you have no idea what the implications of this are, then you need to get a clue before you talk as if Douglas beat Tyson due to superior skill/strategy.

Just somewhat unknown info…George claimed that he may have been drugged before that fight because that is how he felt. To my knowledge he never pushed the issue.

It does in certain cases. Tyson was the x factor. Holyfield was never afraid of Tyson. I think every other fighter was, even Buster Douglas. Buster saw his weakness and took advantage of it. I still think Holy and Ali would have made a better fight.

Break this down for me, you are saying that Tyson didn’t have a sustained rage? That isn’t really my argument, but I feel Tyson could carry the worlds weight in rage. Tyson had “Stupid Rage”. Biting ears off hitting below the belt consistently, attack the opponent over and through the referee. Even if Tyson never had sustained rage, he never needed it to vanquish his foe.

My dad’s buddy ponied up 800.00 dollars for two nice seats at the Tyson vs Spink’s fight. We all know what that was worth.

Ali would have tired him out and knocked him out.

Tyson was not a good boxer. He was a student of the fight game but he never translated that into the type of skill Ali had.

Ali could beat you a number of ways. Tyson could only win by early knockout.

He would not have knocked Ali out early.

seems like ali is the winner here, but check out this awesome tyson video with my favorite song of all time: - YouTube

ITS THE FINAL COUNTDOWNNNNNN!!!

here is my favorite tyson vid:

With both fighters in their prime, Tyson would have had a tough time just trying to connect with Ali. That man could dance in the ring like no one’s business. And to correct someone who stated earlier that Ali didn’t have any power, you are crazy! His hooks were deadly.

By the way, do you know who has a pretty bad ass left hook now; Vladimir Klitschko!

I’d be more afraid of his cross! That thing can fucking crack!
