This question is directed to those who have knowledge of yoga. I was curious if slow flow yoga and occasional vinyasa (hour long classes) would be an appropriate replacement for 25 minutes low intensity on an recumbent bike?
I do slow flow yoga after I work out once or twice a week. I wouldn’t call it a replacement for cardio but it will strengthen your transverse abdominals and increase your flexibility.
ok thanks, my caloric intake is decreased and im on a low carb diet (trying to get from 13%bf to about 10%). im sick of cardio so i started taking yoga in addition to lifting and i figure if i walk out of the room with my heart racing and body soaked, I had to have burned some major cals and eleveated the metabolism.
I’d only get my heart racing in the yoga room from looking at the girls
lol jk
Sorry I know nothing of yoga, nor want to, but I always frown upon men who do yoga and talk about it in a bodybuilding forum. It may have it’s place but not here…imo…
I’d say to tweak your weightlifting routine to add cardio that way, or pick another piece of cardio equipment.
I’ll leave your thread now so you can continue doing what your doin with the yoga bit.
joking and all my opinion of course…

i’ll refer you to Shugarts’s post :

i know many sports stars do yoga
Yoga is great for flexibility, relaxation and a good form of active recovery (that’s why it is popular with athletes).
It has some cardiovascular benefit and is effective at getting the blood flowing.
It’s not so good for fat burning though. If fat loss is your goal, then there are far better choices out there, IMO.

I hear ya mate! I’m the same way. I had to do yoga due to my injury and to “increase mobility”. I always ask for extra help from the instructor. She loves it though as much as I do. She gets a workout moving me around compared to my 140lb skinny fat surfer soy boy counterpart.
