X-Vest For Weighted Pull-Ups?

Anyone use an x-vest to do weighted pull-ups? I tried this morning just sticking a weight between my ankles and crossing them but that was a disaster. The dip belts at my gym don’t really fit my small, female waist. Was thinking of getting an x-vest at sports authority. Would this work?

Yes.

That would work. Also, you might want to look online for a good dip belt. I can’t stand the ones at my gym, so purchased one myself and then bought some extra chain so that the weight would hang a little lower than with the chain the dip belt came with.

Something I use to do in college was put weight into my school bag and do weighted pull ups and dips. The gym didnt have a belt and I didnt have the money for one.

Haha good idea, thanks. I’m sure I would get lots of stares at my snobby gym but I could care less

They will probably think you’re going to steal the weight.

Yeah its pretty uncomfortable at first but you get use to it.

You can also take a weight belt, put two holes in it, carabeaners through the holes and connect a chain to it to turn it into a dip belt…

Thats what i did… but then again, I haven’t quiet gotten to the 45 yet…

I used to hold dumbbells between my ankles but that got old when I got to 30…

K8,

If the dip belts are too big, you can try attaching the two sides together in the front – making it more snug around your waist.

You can see from my avatar that I just leave it open and hanging, but if I wanted it to be REALLY snug, I could clip the two main loops together so that both sides of the chain hang down right next to each other.

As for x-vest pull ups…sure if you can afford it!

Edit: You also don’t have some junk that would potentially get harmed by using this technique.

Hehe…that’s where the longer chain helps. I actually use a second clip to connect the two ends of the belt together so I get a more secure fit around my waist. Some people will loop the chain through both ends to get the same effect, but that shortens the chain, so you can’t use as much weight and also increases the likely hood of ‘junk irritation’.

Thanks everyone so much for all the tips. I will try some of them before spending the money on the X-vest.

Try putting the dumbell between your thighs instead of your ankles. That’s what I do, I’ve went up to 45 pds DB with good result this way.

Get a dip belt and loop it through once on the other end to make it tighter if it too loose.

I was using my x-vest for a while, but my fat ass + 50lb x-vest = broken door frame. When I get a more solid chin up bar I’ll do it again.

I believe if you can get a hold of a rock climbing rope, it’ll work the same.

Its a snug fit no matter the size of the waist line as you can tie the knot accordingly…
Its cheap and you can loop any amount of weight for chin ups…

BTW its strength can hold about 2.2 tons of weight.

I actually went to sports authority yesterday to get an X-vest. But it was a piece of shit knock off brand.

I have no problem with an off brand or no-name brand, but it didn’t look sturdy at all.

I’m going to just order the “Xvest” off the internet.

This is what I do and I also feel that it hits my abs a lot more, too.

I got the 84lb. model from Elitefts. They have free shipping sales every now and then, which would save you an ass load of $$$.

If anyone is interested, I just ordered my 84 lb. Xvest last week, found it on store on ebay. I paid $260 including shipping. Best price I seen on the net, and it beats that elite fitness price with free shipping by like $40.
