Dip Belt Or X-Vest

Ok what would you guys reccomend? A weighted jacket…x-vest style or a dip belt. Dip belts are about $20…and I don’t remember how much the x-vests cost.
Jason

Buy a dipping belt. You aren’t limited to the weight you can use. Great for chins/dips(obviously). I know it was $20 well spent. That said, if you have the finances also get an x-vest, as it quite versatile. You can use it for cardio a la Chris Shugart in his velocity plan or however you damn well please.

I agree all the way. Weighted vests are cool, but they’re alot more expensive. A dipping belt will allow you to progressively increase weight and strength… and having plates strapped to you looks alot more hardcore anyway.

Any suggestion on a good dipping belt? Or all there pretty much all the same?

I’ve been shoving plates in an old army backpack, but I’m afraid of having the bottom give out or a strap breaking…

I’m still not using that much additional weight, so I guess I can keep it up for a little while more.

Pookie…i don’t know where you order your supps from (unf. Biotet doen’t make accessories) but the online retaliers I get them from had dip belts. I’d just get what htey have and throw it in your order to save on shipping. I haven’t tried any of them out yet so I can’t comment on quality.
thanks for the advice…dip belt it is

I say go for the Xvest. Sure it cost more but is very versitile and you wont regret it.

Also adding more weight is simple. You can actually fit small plates in the pockets along with the supplied weights and it has loops in which you can add an external load, front and back.

Gotta say one of the most usefull tools I have,

Hope that helps,
Phill

I made a dip belt. I just hooked a piece of chain to a standard weight belt. It works great. I already had everything so it was free. My local fitness store wanted $35 for a dip belt! That said, the money I saved will be going towards an X-Vest.

True chief…but you can find dip belts for $20.

Plus lookign aroudn on Froogle x-vest will run me about $200…

I do the same thing, and it has worked great for dips, chins and other exercises. Give it a try.

Like others have said, it is easy to make a dip belt, especially if you already own a belt. Just go buy a some chain and a carabiner and…voila!

That being said, I wish I had the money for an x-vest and would love to get one.

Bills suck,

I picked up a dip belt from ironmind and I’m very pleased with the quality. It uses a canvas strap to hold the weights, which is much more comfortable than a chain, especially as you go heavier. Unless you’re into pain. In which case replace the chain with barb wire.

Unfortunately I don’t have a weight belt laying around the house b/c I haven’t used one since back in high school. So I’m just going to have to roll with ordering one.

After I broke my gyms dipping belt, I bought a regular squat belt for $10, chain, and carabiners at Home Depot. Works great for dips and pull/chin-ups. I’m on my second belt, though. I keep breaking the damn things.

Just curious, what part keeps breaking?

The buckles separate and get all bent out of shape and won’t hold the chains in place. Next time it happens, I’m having my shop weld the damn thing back together.
