X-Men Origins: Wolverine Official Thread

So i just read Roger Ebert’s review and it was hilarious. Here are a few excerpts…

“Their story starts in “1840 – the Northwest Territories of Canada,” a neat trick, since Canada was formed in 1867, and its Northwest Territories in 1870. But you didn’t come here for a history lesson. Or maybe you did, if you need to know that Logan and Victor became Americans (still before they could be Canadians) and fought side by side in the Civil War, World War I, World War II and Vietnam. Why they did this, I have no idea. Maybe they just enjoyed themselves.”

“But wait! – you say. Doesn’t “X-Men Origins” at least provide a learning experience for Logan about the origins of Wolverine? Hollow laugh. Because we know that the modern Wolverine has a form of amnesia, it cannot be a spoiler for me to reveal that at the end of “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” he forgets everything that has happened in the film. Lucky man”

Ebert is a funny mofo sometimes, lol.

That WASN’T Deadpool.

Meh, it was ok. I wasn’t expecting another Iron Man since Marvel rented the rights of the X Men out to Fox. For those thinking Stan Lee did a disservice with this movie are incorrect. If anything, all Stan did was get a check.

I wish they would’ve expanded on the adventures Jimmy and Victor had before all the Special Team and Weapon X stuff. That could’ve still been entertaining while developing the characters further. That was definitely rushed in this movie.

Now for my little rant, just for AMC Loews:

If the feature presentation is an action movie…

…ahem…

DO NOT FUCKING SHOW FUCKING TRAILERS FOR FUCKING CARTOONS AND KIDDIE MOVIES!!! I like these kinds of movies, but trailers should whet the appetite for the meal to come. So show some G.I. Joe and some Transformers for crying out loud, not “Up” and the next stupid Ice Age movie. Tards…

Yeah, that’s crossing a line. I mean, it’s not like GI Joe or Transformers were ever cartoons targeted towards kids or anything.

High praise coming from you. Thanks.

Interesting…guess it depends on where you live.

They did show the Ice Age trailer…but they also showed Transformers,Terminator, something I can’t remember…and Peter Jackson’s District 9(interesting trailer).

Now that you mention it, they did show that District 9 preview.

One of my tendencies in movie watching just showed itself- If I wasn’t too crazy about a movie, I’ll get fixed on one aspect of the experience and focus on that instead of being engrossed in the storytelling. Therefore, Wolverine isn’t a film that entertained me.

I thought, funnier still, was just simply the entire strike force standing deadpan in the elevator calmly listening to Muzak, like they were merely going up to a Wallstreet office to trade securities or something.

I thought the movie was mediocre at best. The story was done terribly there were so many holes I wont even bother listing. Ryan Renolds as deadpool would have been awesome but they the writers definitly messed that one up. In the interviews they said that they expanded his role, if they meant the ending than they definitly should not have (huge deadpool fan). The acting for sabretooth and Striker was terrible in my opinion the guys who played them in the original movies did a ten times better job. Hugh Jackman was good but the writing was just horrible. And thank god I am not the only one that thought the cgi effects for his claws in the bathroom looked like a 13 year old with photoshop did them.

All in all I thought it was a huge step down from the xmen movies.

I loved it.

It’s sometimes regional or based on the theater chain you’re watching the movie in. My trailers were Up, Ice Age, some comedy I can’t remember, Inglorious Basterds, Transformers and District 9.

I’m really interested in seeing District 9.

I know right.

you know its not a horrible movie maybe I should give it another try.
this time not be so picky and just enjoy it for what it is?

For what it is, in the same way that 2 Girls, 1 Cups is a tale about friendship?

Well, I enjoyed it. I haven’t read the comics so I’m not disputing anything you guys have said regarding comic plot lines, back story and such.

Since I didn’t know any of that, obviously, it didn’t bother me. Had I read the comics, I probably would’ve been upset - a little. You have to understand that while those stories work and make sense, Hollywood doesn’t make these movies to please the comic fan; they are looking to turn a dollar and right now the comic action-hero genre is hot.

freindship and bonding, yes now you got it.

I’ve been a big big fan of Wolverine (my fav comic character) since I was a kid. There’s no doubt in my mind that the movie could have been absolutely great had they stuck closely to the source material. The changes they made to Deadpool were terrible. Agent Zero was a waste of a plot string. And really…since when was it OK for a Marvel movie, an X-Men movie, to not have the characters look like they did in the comics? Sabretooth did not at all look the part.

Would it have killed them to show his appearance gradually change through the opening scenes? You don’t need to be a fan of the comics to understand that a dude with claws, big fangs and lots of bushy hair might leap around like an animal, instead they sort of just tossed it in, as if to say, “Oh yeah, he can also do this!”

The CGI was bad in a few places. The claws throughout the movie looked obviously fake. They had a “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” style glow to them that made it hard to buy. Even something as simple as the Fire Escape coming down and the logs being lifted up at the lumberjack camp were clumsy looking and unfinished.

A big part of me really hopes this movie gets a Hulk treatment. A fresh start with a better plotline, far better CGI, and more finished feel.

spoilers

yea what they did to deadpool in the end was beyond dumb. the first few scenes were very good though.

the brother twist they did with creed and logan was interesting. the comics had creed always claiming to be logans father.

by butchering some of the characters, mainly silver fox, they had to snowball stupid ideas like logan getting bullets to the head.

but some of the previouse posters are insisting that logan would regain his memories, he would not. in the comic he stabs sabertooth in the head and that cures sabertooth from his bloodlust via brain damage. and all the weapon x members had memory implants as well.

creed was done OK. i say this becuase they dynamic between him and logan was that creed could not control his bloodlust while logan could. creed was not all inhuman like they kinda portrayed him (he remembers every person he kills)

also the way they did the adamantium and experiments was akward. deadpool and the rest of weapon x are all products of wolverine, sabertooth and zero. and to some earlier confusion, yes wolverines healing factor in the comic is enough to prevent all his skin and msucle from being destroyed from liquid hot adamantium.

by messing up the brain implants, silver fox, no birdy, and the actual weapon x tests, they had to make up things that didnt make sense in an attempt to keep a congruent storyline.

6/10

im also a bigger sabertooth fan, hes always stronger and better than wolverine. in the comics he tracks wolverine down every year on his birthday and beats him to an inch of his life just to remide him that he can.

having creed run from logan in that new orleans scene sparked some nerd rage.

Wolverine was your favorite character, Jeffe?

I’ve always liked Deadpool and Magneto. I actually think Magneto is one of the greatest comic book villains ever, just his powers and the way he interacts with characters and his agendas. All very brilliantly done.

I’ve also always liked Iron Man and Death’s Head (Minion).

I thought it was alright, but I didn’t expect much. The guy playing Sabertooth was great, some of the fights were good. The ending was odd.

What the fuck was up with the CG Professor X at the Helicopter? Did Jean Luc Picard refuse to have anything else to do with the frachise so they had to CG him in?

Bah! DOOM is the greatest villain. He’s suffered set-backs, yes, but he’s never been beaten. Hell, he conned Dr. Strange AND the Devil.
