Wrist Straps: Cotton or Rubber?

Which type allows a superior grip Cotton or Rubber straps???

Train primarily for aesthetic/performance purposes and have a hard time getting a consistent strong grip when doing deadlifts and pullups/chins on a a thick bar.

I use cotton, but with a little rubber strip sewn into the part that actually grasps the bar. I’ve tried leather ones in the past (all they had in the store), and there was no real difference except that they were thinner overall.

I’ve destroyed at least 6-8 pairs in my years of lifting. Best set I’ve ever had are the blue ?nylon type straps sold by IronMind Enterprises. Cheap and have lasted longer than 3 pairs of cotton Everlast straps and look like they could go for another 10+years.

Isn’t the point of a thick bar to make the grip harder, and therefore improve grip strength?

Anyways, I don’t use straps anymore, but when I did, I had a set of cotton ones, but they had some neoprene/rubber on them for cushion on your wrists. They worked great for me, never had issues with them slipping off the bar or off my wrists.

Something like this: http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2161022&cp=2367453.2622932.693995&view=all&parentPage=family

I like leather. They leave less “scarring” on my wrists after heavy days.

Dirt.

While straps do have their place, you should make a conscious effort to squeeze your grip even with the straos aiding (a lot of guys I see just let the weights hang). I admit to relying more and more on straps over the years, and was actually surprised when I did my 1st strongman contest and couldnt use them. I had to Dl with a fat bar, as well as a farmers walk. I figured I wouldn’t be able to hold the bar (never even used a fat bar before), but surpisingly did well (although my forearms were sore as hell for days after -lol).

USe them, but remember what they’re for.
