Bah I should have done 10. It just takes more mental toughness for stuff like that. Your mind tells you to quit, and then after you rack it you’re like “Shit I had the strength for a couple more.”[/quote]
one of the worst feelings

Bench:
45 10x
95 10x
135 10x
185 5x
225 5x
260 10x Hey. Not too shabby for me. I desperately want to be able to hit the same numbers I used to with my new and improved bench form. Also I definitely should not have gone for number 11. I was excited about how good my setup felt and got carried away. Don’t want to go to absolute failure if I can avoid it, or at least that’s what everyone says.
275 3x
290 3x
305 3x This took everything I had left. Definitely done after that set. The three sets after my rep max with 260 are what Jim Wendler has for some reason called “Joker Sets”. Whatever; I love the idea.
Close Grip:
245 8x
Incline:
205 7x
Deadbench: This was set at about a 1-board height. I think that’s actually harder than from the chest for me on this lift.
225 1x
275 1x
275 1x I could tell you that I had planned on doing 275 for a couple singles. That however would be a lie. I thought I’d bang that out for a couple and then hit some singles with 315. Fuck no. This was shockingly difficult.

No vids today. Was using my phone to supply the tunes for the gym.
For the last few days the old injury in the left side of my lower back has really flared up. It’s pretty bad.
Also I had to play a concert yesterday, so I had to do yesterday’s workout in addition to today’s.
Deadlift:
135 5x
225 5x
315 3x
400 8x
18" Deadlift: (used straps)
135 1x
225 1x
315 2x
405 2x
495 2x
585 1x I had to stop here. I wanted to pull somethin really big on this, but my back was feeling seriously fucked up. The left side of it just wasn’t even engaging at all. Like when I tried to fire my low back the right side would go but the left side literally just didn’t activate. I was just getting a shooting pain back there and no muscle activation. Spent a while after this trying to work it out, but was not really successful.
Hyperextensions:

That’s 100 total reps with 135 strict press. It took me about 55 minutes.
I also supersetted them with pullups, so I did 100 pullups along with them.

15x upright rows
15x klokov press
15x front raises
Did that complex 3 times.
I’ll see if I can’t unfuck my back soon. I want to hit some big 18" deadlifts.
Ouch mister Chris. It ominously reminds me of my own injury…I hope it’s nothing serious! Anyway, crazy work volume with those presses lol. I hope to see a 250 overhead soon.

Thanks man! It’s not a tear; I’m positive of that. Something is pretty badly tweaked or imbalanced though. It’s gotten worse as the day went on. Moving around is painful lol.
Fu… That sounds similar to how I was/am.whenever I injure a section of my erector spinae on my left side. Did you kind of windmill to that side too?
Sorry 'bout your back broski.
So like, what did you do in this concert thing? Are you secretly a famous musician?

I dunno actually. My hips definitely feel tilted though.

Thanks Jenn. I’m not famous lol. I just enjoy playing in a local wind symphony (volunteer, not paying mind you lol). I have had some really great opportunities in my time though. To my knowledge me and Frank Yang are the only two TNationers who have performed on stage at Carnegie Hall ![]()
Sorry to hear about your back. I’ve had recurrent issues with my lower back and one trick I found that really helps me recover quickly when I get a flare up is to do 30-rep side bends, with a slight forward lean so it targets the erectors more and the abs do less. I find doing that allows you to target both sides equally, without letting one dominate, and really pumps it full of blood. I’m no expert at all, just thought I’d share what has helped me. Hope it recovers quickly anyway.
Awesome to hear you are a musician - what instrument do you play? I played in several brass bands throughout school and really had amazing opportunities through that too, but unfortunately haven’t kept it up at University besides the odd session here and there.
All the best!

Thanks for the back tips man, I’ll try some light side bends at home.
This is a pic of my horn! It’s a Hans Hoyer 6801. It was one of the earliest of this model number ever made. Nearly every piece of it is hand-crafted by the expert horn makers in Markneukirchen, Germany in the tradition of Meister Hans Hoyer as it has been in his family for roughly 250 years. It’s made of unlacquered nickel silver with a gold brass bell ring.
The leadpipe was handmade by Dennis Houghton. It is entirely gold brass. Most leadpipes will taper to a point and then become cylindrical. His has a conical taper throughout its entire length (in other words it’s God-like).
The mouthpiece is hand lathed by Thomas Greer. This is literally a lost art (almost nobody anywhere still makes them by hand). It is a C8 mouthpiece (very deep and open) based off of the extremely famous model popularized by James Chambers. The body is made of raw brass, and the rim is gold plated.
I’ve had a few, minor after market adjustments made to it as well including removing the first leadpipe brace and changing the brace on the main tuning slide to be shorter and have a different attachment point at a different angle. These were made to help the instrument vibrate and resonate more freely.
If you can’t tell I get very excitable about it lol. It’s my most valuable possession. And not just figuratively speaking either, it’s literally the most expensive thing I own (including my car).
