Would You, Quintus? Would I?

Here’s a warmup set which is okay I guess:

Wanna see something ugly? Here was the work set:

One of the powerlifters at the gym said I’m basically getting nothing from my hamstrings. That out of the hole I shoot my hips up and the weight remains virtually motionless and then I just do a good morning. I can kinda see what he’s saying. Well now you all know why I hate squats and have never posted a vid of them before lol.

We’ve all got our weaknesses. I pull 500 just as slow as I do 405 and 315. It’s pretty sad, but we all know I suck at deadlifts. No shame in these things, dude. You don’t look built for squatting big weights, and I think by default your physiology just doesn’t want you to incorporate the hamstrings in the movement. Do you have really loose flexible hamstrings?

Ernie Sr. is that way. I always thought people like that were cool lol. It’s hilarious watching him pull 405 kinda slowly like it’s heavy, but then he pulls 805 and it looks basically the same.

They are very, very tight. I cannot get anywhere close to touching my toes without bending my knees.

Same. Believe it or not, we’re not very similar in our mutual extreme hamstring tightness. I can’t even raise my legs past 50 degrees while lying flat on my back without bending my knees (unless you fit that criteria too). I recently learned that sometimes people suffer from tight hamstrings in a standing only position due to some other issue relating with the pelvis/hips (i think). In that case, you WOULD NOT stretch your hamstrings. In my case, where my hamstrings are extremely tight just by themselves, then I would. Just food for thought I suppose.

Sorry man. Can’t help it.

I actually haven’t tried helping it lol. Babyslayer says leave those motherfuckers tight.

Somethings are good to be tight… I am not sure about hamstrings though.

I honestly would never take Leeman, Rubish, Hickson, or even the Lilliebridge’s perspectives on physiology. They’re all extremely strong, but they lack experience and knowledge. Look up on someone like Elliott Hulse, Joe DeFranco, and even Mark Rippetoe on these matters! You can very easily assess what needs to be stretched and what needs to be left alone on your body.

It’s very easy to be ignorant on this subject and it’s also very easy to ascertain. Take some time to learn about these things. Since I made the pursuit to clean up my body that is riddled with muscle imbalances, I have overcome many milestones in regards to strength physically, and mentally just knowing how my body works and responds to things.

I realize this topic isnt half as sexy and appealing as “Fuck it man, I do what I want and I live dangerously cause fuck it man we all gonna die so I might aswell tear every muscle in my body” - Pete Rubish after attempting to deadlift 965lbs after barely doubling 815 in straps after deadlifting 800 and after deadlifting 785 after deadlifting 800.

That statement was rather shrewd, but god dammit I get tired of this brute bravado bullshit that infests the strength scene today! Also, I ranted and I realize that NOW.

TL;DR just take the fucking time to learn as much as you can in all aspects of what we pursue with all of our heart, not just neuromuscularly.

Elliot Hulse weirds me out sometimes. He’s always telling me to breathe through my balls…

Saw you’re doing a meet in June, and I think it’s your first. The biggest mistake I made during my meet was rushing the lifts. Take your time during the set ups and make sure you have everything how you want it. Everything should be like how you train. If you get there early, go and check out the bars that you’ll actually use during the meet. Make sure your grips are where you want them. Those are two little things to think about and I hope they help. Good luck with your training and stay strong.

Whatever it takes to make dem gainz

5/1/2013

Bench: The booty pop adventure continues
45 10x
95 10x
135 10x
185 5x
225 5x
275 5x
300 5x vid
300 5x

Close Grip: I upped the weights for close grip by 3% so it was a bit of a leap from last week.
280 5x vid
280 5x

Incline: Likewise I reduced these numbers by 3%.
230 5x
230 5x

Slingshot Bench: First time ever using the slingshot! It’s an XL which is a size too big and it’s really, really old, so I didn’t get a huge amount of pop out of it, but I still got some and it was really fun to use.
Everything paused like Mark Bell says to do.
315 5x
275 9x
275 8x
275 9x
225 15x Actually wasn’t my chest or triceps that started failing it was my back! I was too tired to keep holding my back tight against that sling shot and it started pulling my shoulders forward which didn’t feel good so I declared the set over.

Dips: I did a rest pause set here with 2 pauses.
30x
15 seconds
15x
15 seconds
12x

Pullups:
5 sets of 10

So yeah keeping the ass down has been a bit tougher than I had expected. The only times I was really able to do it was when I focused on squeezing my thighs into the bench and NOT pushing down through my heels (which is what everyone says to do) :expressionless:

Sort of had to just eliminate my leg drive all together it feels like lol.

First set of 300: I had my legs out way farther and I swear it felt like my butt was in contact the entire time, but when you look at the video my ass was STILL coming off the bench. Inconceivable!

Close grip set with 280: The only set where I managed to keep my butt down for all 5. I had my legs way, way far out and I was just squeezing my things and caving my knees inward basically. Unfortunately my feet slid farther and farther away with each rep and by the last 2 my legs were just laying there with no tightness left at all lol.

Okay so not as easy a fix as I’d hoped. I’ll continue to work on it next week and hopefully have it pretty well hammered out. I’m still not ruling out going with a heels up tucked position.

so you’re the idiot that has been trolling me?

for fuck’s sake how about you take it easy on your sternum and bench properly… dumbass

it’s a chest not a fucking springboard

Woah, now, Mr. Walkaway. You might want to ease up on the dosage test, and get yourself on some SERMs. You haven’t been lactating lately, have you? Any bitch tits, or just bitchy personality? In all seriousness he is coming down a little fast, but under control. Calm your tits, it’s not like your sternum is taking any abuse/ him saying they are competition pause bench presses.

this is the kid who annoys the shit out of me for saying powerlifting is dumb… when what he is doing is 100x dumb-er than powerlifting. my buddy just got a hairline fracture in his sternum from doing EXACTLY what this assclown is doing

you can hear the weights “clank” as the bar crashes into his chest… you don’t even need to be paying that close of attention to notice it

he’s clearly not strong enough to be using that weight if he needs to use his ribcage to get a “recoil” effect.

that shit was just under control enough to not slip out of his hands
