I crushed my left index finger between the bar and the rack while doing overhead squats a few weeks ago with a full 90lbs, I thought it was broken, but it was actually just badly bruised.
i didnt lose a limb but i was squatting in high school and when i got to about the bottom there was a loud pop and i collapsed to the ground. Fractured my l4 and l5 at the bottom. The dock said they were already basically fractured but the heavy squat did me in. That was all kinds of painful I couldnt walk for almost 3 days, just laid in bed.
I was doing incline dumbbell presses once with (for me) heavy weights. I guess the left arm kinda lost balance, and drifted towards the right. Now, I have somewhat lax ligaments, and my shoulder dislocated. I’ll never forget dropping the bells on my thighs, looking in the mirror, and seeing my shoulder approximately where my armpit is.
Funny thing is, as I went to stand up, the traction of the dumbbell popped it back in place. I actually finished the workout (we stopped doing chest, and went onto rows), pretty stupid, I know, but it felt fine once it was back in. Its never dislocated since (knock on wood).
I also once saw a skinny kid, who I had heard was training to play football. He was always doing power cleans, snatches, and presses with questionable form. I guess someone had spilled a little water. As he went to snatch, the bar went up, he slipped forward, the arms fell back - double dislocated shoulders. He panicked, and ran to the trainer’s desk, his arms were flailing like a rag doll’s.
I had just finished a set of deadlifts and felt something uncomfortable in my back. So, I tried to “stretch” it out by grasping the railing and pulling (don’t know why). Next thing I know i hear this pop. Apparently, I severely strained my lower trapezius/rhomboid. So, for the next couple days, I could not get out of bed without assistance, couldn’t turn my neck, couldn’t pick anything up, couldn’t take deep breaths, basically couldn’t do anything that involved my upper torso. Biggest bitch I’ve ever come across I must say.
ive had a bad back my whole life, but ive never actually hurt it lifting. it gets really tight some times and ive gone home. i actually hurt it sleeping more than anything else which is embarassing.
L3-L4, L4-L5, L5-S1 disc herniations, couldn’t sit down for 3 whole months with radicular pain to my left thigh. Did it squating one day (rounded the back) and the wife ended up making me go to Orthopedic. Got ESI (epidural steriod injections) under c-arm (guided x-ray) and good drugs. Needless to say I have very strict squat form now. Ganglion cyst (old timers call them bible bumps) to right wrist, not a fan of the hyperextended wrists while curling that was promoted back in the mid ninties. Had that cut out 3 times, last time did it myself, just busted it again while doing military a couple of weeks ago. That is all for now.
Someone dropped a 45lb plate straight onto my head once. It was an accident, and she was friggin’ hot, so I let it go. Would’ve asked for a sympathy bang, but she left too soon…
I remember TC wrote an article a long time ago about tearing his pec. The way he described the sound - “like a wet towel being ripped apart” - made me cringe.

How the hell did that happen? Were you hiding under the weight tree or something?

The leg press is right next to the cable row. It slipped out of her hand and hit my fat head. In all seriousness she seemed scared of the consequences, so I told her no one saw it anyway. I wasn’t hurt, but some noob would have probably died or something.

A girl leg pressing 45s? I only saw 1 girl using the leg press machine once, and she was using 1 10lb plate on each side, i guess she was ‘toning’ her legs
