When I saw there was only 3 left in that group I wondered if Bishop would take his foot off the pedal but looks like Pritchett is defending against that happening
OK that makes sense. Essentially though you can still win by doing more reps that the other person.
Trey beat Tom. Tom and Felix into the stone off. Oberst pulled out third and made the stone off. Novilkov came in 4th and missed the finals. Bobby wins, luke and Kevin in the stone off
Wow, this year is proper exciting and I can even watch it until christmas !!! I feel sorry for Mark Felix making third and having to stone off against Tom !!
Who do people have for the finals now based on the group placings ?
Other than Novikov not making the finals (and assuming Tom Stoltman wins his stone off), it looks like the favorites going in are probably still the favorites. So JF Caron, Brian Shaw, Tom Stoltman are the podium finishers that I would expect if I had to choose.
Janashia is also a contender and maybe Bobby Thompson should get some attention as a group winner although I don’t think he was on much of the radar going in.
Shaw is looking strong for sure and he will have the advantage over Stoltman of not having done a stone off and not having pushed himself on the pickaxe.
Why does Novikov miss? Same points as Faires but won 2 events vs 1 event. Novikov finished ahead of Faires in two events and Faires ahead of Novikov in two and they split the deadlift.
Would think Novikov goes ahead on those circumstances…
I was curious about that too. I thought it went by event winds also. It’s just what the spreadsheet says right now as I have not heard any actual reports on it.
I agree with makes no sense, same average placing, same points, more events wins to Novilkov?
Looks like it will be a good finals. Brian, Tom and JF probably still favorites but plenty of other good guys in there too.
A little known rule in the final is if there are two or more athletes with the highest score at the end of WSM, then the one who placed best at the stones wins. Stones have been the last event for a long time so I don’t know if it’s stones or the last event. If it’s last event then they may be applying that rule to the heats.
Could also be why Thompson finished ahead of Stoltman in that group (though Thompson won more events).
Anyway, that would be a very stupid rule so being WSM, there’s a good chance that it’s right ![]()
I was aware of this for finals and I kinda get it. But there wasn’t any stones in the heats !! (other than the stone off). Its all immaterial anyway cause I am guessing Luke would have beaten him in the stone off anyway.
I’m wondering if it’s the last event rather than stones specifically? Just that stones are always last.
I can confirm that when athletes are tied at the end of all events, the higher placed athlete in the last event “wins”.
No Novikov…
I’m shocked. Really shocked. Group 5 has been epic. But Novikov left to much to do after a poor loading medley and average deadlift.
Question.
Jerry Pritchard putting a good show on for the front hold. For a guy that was only ever going to finish 3rd. Do you think the organisers has a word?
Podium - JF, T Stoltman, Shaw.
That is beyond dumb. Especially when the last event is a front hold…
If anyone wants a good YouTube channel to watch and keep upto date with this:
Big Loz Official.
Not only is Loz an ex competitor with a ton of experience and a real love for the sport but his wife Liz is just ace. And loves the sport equally as much. The two of them make a great show. It is a great place to keep up to date,
As someone who has watched every WSM final at least once, I was blown away by Liz’s knowledge of the sport. They did a trivia video, and her knowledge is strongman historian level.
Lucky guy he is having a woman as passionate as he is about the sport.
When I want to watch a WSM final it usually goes something like this:
Me: How about a WSM final?
Her: Not again
Me: How about one with Magnus
Her: I guess I would watch that (she thinks Magnus is hot, second place is Ab Wolders)
