World's Strongest Man General Discussion

Well, he showed us Haha First in his group and fourth overall

This group is a good scrap. Expect Thompson and Stoltman to inch ahead in the overhead but Novi isn’t a chump here, especially if there’s a dumbbell. Then I have no idea what to expect from the hold

Looks like the train pull became a train push. Felix didn’t do well here and ended in last place. Group 2 is getting really tight.
Tom - 12
Trey Mitchell and Mark Felix on 9
Evan Singleton on 8
Johnny Hansson on 7

Looks like Tom will win the group but with 2 events to go anyone could be 2nd and 3rd.

They left the brakes on. Apparently Johnny Hanson spent a whole 60 seconds trying to pull a train with the breaks on…

You’d be fuming. He won the event some how. Not sure of the whole stroy. But that’s a big thing to have happen. He’s going to be drained now.

Yep apparently they didn’t do the testing or set up before. Very bad for a show that is supposed to be the best. Will deff impact the competitors for the rest of the events to come. It’s really tight and pretty exciting after 2 days though.

Lol wouldn’t be WSM without something like this happening

I’ve heard both that there were brakes set and that the original setup was just too heavy. It’s actually worse if it was just too heavy, it apparently means no one ever tested it. If the brakes were set it could have been a last second technical issue with the train…

I’ve read I was heat expansion. But I call bull shit.

WSM have a habit of “it will be alright on the night”.

Looks like Brian can’t lose his heat unless he were to 0 the front hold somehow. JF about has his locked up too. Tom lost most of his lead though. 1 point between him and Trey, but it’s a good drop to 3rd, so Tom should at minimum be in the stone off.

Looks like Pritchett took the saving it for the stones path. Luke and Novikov move to tied for first in the group of death.

24 seconds for the overhead medley is mad from Novikov.

Shit Novikov has pulled that one out of the bag.

I saw lukes 25 seconds and thought there is no way he can bet that…
That’s an insane time. At least luke an Novikov get to go last in the axe hold. So they know what they have to do to win.

Group of death indeed, Kevin Faires gets 3rd in the Medley, with a time that would have won EVERY other group

Novikov has just edged out Luke in the last 2 events. big outcomes for tiny amounts of time. Novikov always seems to do what he needs to and nothing more.

I won’t lie I saw the 1st day and wondered if he was going to make the finals. But he’s made of different stuff. And come back strong.

It comes down the axe hold for those two. Which is just a test of will power. Who wants it more?

Big Tommy is easing off I think. His over head medley is not that much slower than Luke’s.
Looks like a case of “I’d rather conserve energy and do stone than go flat out”?
Or maybe he is confident in his front hold?

Probably depends on what the overhead is. I don’t know what the exact lifts in it were. He could have missed a heavy one at the end and had to take some recovery time or something.

His circus dumb bell is pretty poor to be honest.

I dont really like the fact that there are only 3 guys left in this group but I guess that it just luck of the draw. There is no incentive for Adam or Jerry to do anything other than save their energy for the stone off. Big Loz mentioned that who ever is in second place may get a slight advantage in the stone off but didn’t say that it was, probably just who goes first or second.

3rd place has to put the stone over 1st so has a 1 rep disadvantage.

Can you explain this more, surely they both keep going in a stone off so not sure how this is advantageous

The stone off is A goes, B goes, A goes, B goes, etc. until someone fails. If A fails on his 10th rep, B, having started second, has only had to do 9 reps. It’s possible that B would have failed on his 10th rep, too, but we don’t know because he doesn’t have to attempt it. On the other hand, if A makes his tenth rep, and B fails his 10th rep, A had to do strictly more reps than B. In other words, going second is essentially equivalent to winning ties where both were able to do the same amount.
