I’ve been wearing vibrams in the gym for a few years now and love them. Also wear them around as much as I can, winter gets a little cold for the toes though lol.

I always work out barefoot and I run in a flimsy pair of plimsols. I just move so much better without shoes, I’m faster, stronger and more mobile with no shoes or plimsoles and my body aches a whole lot less when I’m not wearing shoes.

It’s got to the point where normal shoes make me clumsy and I feel like I’m strapped to planks of wood.
Had to google Plimsols. So basically they are chucks.

I have a feeling your saw old plimsols kids would have to wear at school, they are quite like chucks but don’t look half as good.

Think of chucks with absolutely no padding that you could squash up into a ball with one hand. They are the poor mans vibrams and you can wear them without getting the strange looks. They’re meant as casual shoes but I have a few pairs and where them whenever I can get away with it which is any time other than work.

They cost me £3 and do exactly the same job as vibrams and all those other overpriced barefoot shoes.

i just take my shoes off to squat and deadlift… socks for the win…

Some people prefer function over fashion.

Not to mention that sometimes you get what you pay for.
Yes, but if people are buying Vibrams because they are low to the ground how are they better, than racing flats?

All I here people say is that they feel their legs really working in Vibrams but, after years of wearing heavy/cushioned shoes any minimalist shoe would have the same effect.

People run marathons and sprint in racing flats, I am pretty sure they can handle squatting and deadlifting a couple times a week.
I didn’t buy Vibrams just because thyey “are low to the ground”. I could have bought water shoes if that was all I cared about.

I mean, seriously, I could see if guys who didn’t train hard were raving about them, but what I wear to the gym has the main function of allowing me to perform better, stay cool, and see my muscles working. My feet are more active and I am more agile due to being able to feel my surroundings better. They are not like racing flats…and honestly, it would be cool if the people who hate them had actually worn them before.

^ Who are you addressing?
Every proponent of barefoot lifting. I just don’t get it in general.
I will say that I feel more balanced when doing leg work and MP’s. You feel you are gripping the floor, I doubt anybody has really tested PRs with both. I think it is what feels good to you type of thing.
If you personally believe that you are more balanced (or stronger or more stable or more whatever) barefoot, then you will be…

If you feel the same way, but wearing running shoes, then you will be…
What?

I’m not 12, I have lifted weights since 7 grade football in 1985, used many shoes.

I believe I could slam a basketball, but you know what I cant, I’m fucking white and to short.
Ok - so you’re saying there’s a correct shoe to wear that provides superior balance, etc… and it has no relation to “what works for you” … gotcha… Go ask Wendler his thoughts on that…
Should I ask him which under wear he prefers so we can match?

I am saying that it has nothing to do with my MENTAL status, however it does have to do with my specific FOOT. Your assertion is that what you BELIEVE in, and mine is it has nothing to do with belief, it has to do with what actually WORKS for each individual.

I switched to Vibram’s a few years ago, my squat and dead #'s went up first session. It even helps benching.
Now back to the ass pictures!

I like working out in Free’s. The ones I wear are a couple of years old, but they’ve held up great and are ridiculously comfortable.
Same here.

Still using the old 7.0 Trainers and I credit them for completely fixing my previous flat-footedness (ie. pronating)

In other words, barefoot training can be about MUCH MORE than simply performance.

i aims to please~

I’ve used neoprene swim socks. It feels like barefoot but I can avoid all the stickiness on the floor from the hard core squatters. And people dnn’t have to look at my missing frostbite toe.

I remember plimsols when I was a kid living in England. They were black with tan-colored soles and reminded me of ninja shoes.

I have a pair of “nike free’s”, and I dont find them as “barefoot” as my “New Balance with Vibram soles”. I feel the Free’s have too much cushioning, although they are still are very comfy shoes.

I also have a pair of 5 finger vibrams, but I still havent mustered the courage to actually wear them to my gym. (I live in a country town by the way… think outback Texas)
