Working Out After Not Sleeping Well?

Do you work out if you did not have a good night’s sleep the previous night? Just interested in opinions. I would have thrown down some sort of stimulant in the past, but I have to keep an eye on my blood pressure now. I got about roughly 4-5 hours sleep last night and feel somewhat drowsy today. I tend to go all out or do nothing when it comes to training, I never was one for just going through the motions.

So do you push through and fight the fatigue or try to get a good night’s sleep and wait until the next day?

If I’m really dragging my ass, then no. But usually a poor night’s sleep just leaves me feeling a bit slow. In these times I’m surprised at some of the spectacular workouts I have! It seems the stimulation “awakens” that which previously was dormant.

Sometimes a 10 minute nap in the early afternoon really refreshes me before a workout as well.

It’s far from ideal but in the real world it sometimes tends to happen. Days like that are the days I have to drag myself to the gym. Getting there is the hardest part, but after the first or second work set I’m alert and excited to be there.

There’s a sense of pride that comes when you suck it and up and get shit done when you don’t feel like it.

I’m a member of the insomnia building club lately. I can’t sleep, but once I get into the gym after a few warmup sets… The lack of sleep doesn’t even phase me.

However, I wish I could sleep.

I used stay out late Friday night and go to work at 8am on Saturday, sometimes still half in the bag. Somehow by the end of my shift I was ready to lift and I’d always PR. I’m guessing all those pre-workout drinks we stocked had something to do with it though.

I don’t get a lot of sleep in the first place but on especially short nights, I go with a little stimulant and a little more warm up. I find that if it is possible after the workout, post Workout meal a nap is fantastic.

X2

I know NO-Xplode has a terrible rap on this site lol but I love that stuff, it gets me going. That and I always take mega doses of B-6, B-12, and B complex about an hour before I lift.

You will be surprised to find that those are the main ingredients in most energy drinks or energy supplements.

I agree about the NO-Explode, I used to use it all the time, but as I said, I can’t use stimulants lately, at least not in heavy doses, because of blood pressure/heart issues. Maybe I’ll try a little Endorush tonight (emphasis on the little). Anybody know how Spike comapres to Endorush (keeping in mind I don’t want to shoot my heart rate up…)
