Working around injuries

I’ve recently injured my right lat where it inserts into the armpit. I’m having trouble working mostly all the upperbody. Do you reckon it’s worth training just the left side or will this cause a major imbalance?

wired, I believe it’s worth getting a doctor’s/PT’s/DC’s opinon on what’s going on, how badly you’re injured and how long you should take off to let it heal. I regularly call on different specialists when I have a problem or inury. I want to know, if possible, what might have caused my problem/injury, whether I have any muscular imbalances, and what I can do in the way of rehab/exercise to make sure I never have that problem again.

I saw my sports rehab DC today, and he and I were talking about working around injuries. He’s an advocate of continuing to train, but training only within whatever your painfree ROM happens to be. In other words, stopping at whatever point in the ROM it starts to hurt. I find it to be an interesting concept. It happens to be appropriate for my situation, which may not be the case with YOUR situation.

Here’s hoping you heal quickly and are back in the gym in short order!!!

Depending on the nature/extent of your injury, isometrics may be a good start when training the injured side. Again, cover all the angles (points in the ROM) that are pain-free.

I’m with Tampa Terry, get it checked out first. It’s never a good idea to self-diagnose. Take the opportunity to learn about this injury and you will then be able to help others
