My one and only ever dog was a purebred doberman.
I was 8 years old and it was one of the best things that came into my life at the time.
I watched it grow from a rambunctious puppy into a powerful dog.
It raced me on my bicycle!! It played rough and tumble with me and chased me and me it!
I was there at the operating theater when it had its tail and ears cut and stitched up.
We had to give it away because it was knocking my little sisters down when it tried to play with them. I told my mother it was just too happy and being playful and she explained to me it was overpowering my siblings and becoming to overwhelming to contain. I understood and accepted it but remember clearly as a young child making the decision to never ever look at another dog.
We even share the same personality traits:
Rambunctious and childlike with those whom we have intimacy with and…

True to my childhood stance I have never cared about another dog since.

You should try to go to a show or see a purebred little puppy in the flesh. Mine was like a child with ADHD - think Michael Phelps; a bit goofy but pure action and always delivers when it matters.
My 13 year old lab with an arthritic back caught and killed a rabbit today. It was so fucking full of win considering his age and health. I didn’t think he still had it in him.

I had one of those when I was a kid. Such an amazing dog - he could turn a lacrosse ball into little shreds of rubber in about ten minutes. He also ate through two doors on two separate occasions.
My parents have been downsizing in dog size ever since (Weimeraner → English Springer → English Cocker).
You people make me wish I was home enough to justify a dog. Instead I’m stuck with my ex’s cats (we broke up and she couldn’t afford to keep 2 of them: it was either stay with me or go to the pound, and fuck sticking an animal in the pound).

When I finally get a house with a yard and time for training, I’m getting a Cane. I got to play with one about 10 years ago and wanted my own ever since.

No, its a Silver lab. Created from 2 chocolate labs. They have a gene in which certain litters look very silver but as he gets older his coat is more caramel looking.
This was his color as a puppy.

My dad bred coonhounds back in the late 70’s and 80’s and had to deal with the risk of dog theft all the time. Pelts went for big $ back then and the whole scen was pretty cut throat. Simply disgusting that people sink that low.
