Wish I Was as Buff as My Dog

Is that a Weimeraner on the left?

No, its a Silver lab. Created from 2 chocolate labs. They have a gene in which certain litters look very silver but as he gets older his coat is more caramel looking.

This was his color as a puppy.
Gotcha. I had my doubts but had to ask. It was actually too good looking to be a Weimeraner in retrospect: that breed’s gone fucko-bazoo recently due to overbreeding.

Edit: these are the puppies my buddy’s husky had and that I was deemed to be ‘uncle’ for. There’s two left now (one had to get put to sleep on Sunday after damaging its lungs. Poor little bugger).

Here is my APBT. She was just stolen from my backyard yesterday morning though. :frowning:

WTF? How did that happen? Never let a pit out without knowing where they are. Pieces of shit steal them and fight them. I pray thats not what happened to your little girl.

Her and my beagle were out in the backyard while my wife was getting ready for work. A guy* drove by in his truck and picked her up. Neither of them barked so he must have come by quit a bit.

*I want to use more colorful language. But will refrain so as not to offend anyone.

I don’t care about offending. I would find and destroy that motherfucker. If anything happened to the dog, he would be in a shallow grave. Shit makes me sick.

My dad bred coonhounds back in the late 70’s and 80’s and had to deal with the risk of dog theft all the time. Pelts went for big $ back then and the whole scen was pretty cut throat. Simply disgusting that people sink that low.
Oh I bet. I for one am glad I’m moving out of the city next month. This was just one more reason why I hate the city.

Oh and by the way, nice lookin’ dogs, everyone. Keep the pics comin’!

I love German Shepherds. We had a blind group at the hotel and this little middle-aged woman, maybe, if she stretched real hard, was 5’0 tall with this huge German Shepherd guide dog. I think we heard her bark once. Was the sweetest dog. Once when the elevators went down, they walked down 11 flights of stairs.

There is a German Shepherd in my neighborhood who I see walking early in the morning and in the winter is wearing these fluorescent HOT PINK booties…I’m pretty sure she’s thinking, “Please, don’t let the other German Shepherds see me in these things!”

That’s just bullshit. Please let us know if/when you get her back.

This is my Great Dane, Seamus.

Seamus has had a rough time of it the last few years. He is extremely sensitive and as the vet puts it a “little ocd.” He has a condition called acral lick dermatitis that is basically a form of self mutilation. In the last three years he was abandoned for the third time, left behind in the house I moved into; lived with me while I cared for my dying husband; had my daughter and her dog move in, and then out; lived with me while grieving for my late husband; had a friend and his two dogs move in, and then out; was abandoned by me for several weeks while I was hospitalized last fall; moved to yet another new house and lost his acreage in the country; his dad went away for the summer; and then I was out of town for a few weeks this month.

He is the sweetest dog, hands down. Loves everyone. Lets our chihuahua boss him around, eat first, etc. Is a little scared of the cats, terrified of sprinklers and spray bottles. But don’t let him fool ya, he will take on the world to protect his loved ones.

These pics were taken a few years ago, when I first got him. He is finally looking good again after losing weight, getting a tapeworm that he was recently treated for, and settling into a routine. It is so good to see his muscles rippling under his coat again, to have his fur growing back where he licked his leg raw. He is about eight, kind of pushing it for a Great Dane, but we are hoping since he is a small GD (under 100 lbs) he will live longer than the average 7-10 years.

Here, at my old place, playing with my daughter’s dog, Sadie, an akita/lab cross. In the background, a bonus shot of my little miniature horse Moonbeam, whose hobby is escaping fences. Note that she is on the WRONG side of the fence…

ohhh the ferocity…

Such a handsome boy…

My buddy Warrior… stupid red eye but looks kinda cool with his ice blue eyes

He is gorgeous.

when I graduate my first step is getting my own place then buying a staffy, I have always loved those dogs. My buddy had one and I had the pleasure of dogsitting it for 2 weeks. Fell in love with that animal.

That dog’s lucky to have found you. Well done.

I’d heard that Danes were living longer these days - I met one a few months ago that was pushing 15 and still ridiculously healthy.

Thats cool man, except the buying part. There are TONS of staffies needing good homes right now for free. I just received an email from a friend of mine yesterday about a little local dog who is scheduled to die saturday…well, I took it to another board and posted it, and we’ve found a home for him in Chicago. I’m picking him up tomorrow, and am going to ship him up to his new home. Happy ending.
That’s awesome. When I went through the shelters and humane society the other day I couldn’t believe how man Pits and Staffs were in there. At least half of them were. So sad.

excellent! when the time comes i will definitely look into that. Just figured I would get one from a old friend. He use to breed American bulldogs and got my buddy his(staffy) through a mutual friend. The dog in homeward bound was one if his.

That is awesome to hear, and makes me ridiculously happy. He is such a sweet boy. You say he is lucky to have found me, but really, I am the lucky one. I do not know how I would have survived those first few awful months after my first husband died, if not for Seamus. He sat for hours with his head in my lap, making sure I was ok. I was not planning to keep him, but was so busy going back and forth between work and the hospital that I did not have time to rehome him. I am so glad now that I was “forced” to keep him. It was a bit of a shock when the previous tenants rolled out with their moving truck and left the dog behind…

One of the big causes of death in GDs and other giant dogs is bloat, when the stomach twists after eating and then exercise. Esp in the big boys. Lots of vets are now tacking the stomach to the abdominal wall. The other big cause of death is heart problems. Both of these occur at a lower rate with the smaller dogs. I can understand adoring a really really HUGE dog, but really, Seamus is such a nice size, a bit less than 100 lbs, not so inconvenient as the really big guys, and has all the advantages of the GD personality–loving, gentle, loyal, protective…GDs are SUCH loving dogs!

Poor guy though, he is so gun shy about being left behind. I am spending the night at my mom’s tonight so her dogs are not alone while she is out of town, and my husband is home with our two dogs. Seamus saw me put the bags in the car, then refused to leave my side on our walk this morning, not even to relieve himself. My husband briefly left the house this morning, and Seamus is a complete wreck and is plastered to James’ side and following him like a shadow.

Poor guy. James is thinking about slipping him a bit of a mickey to calm him down…
