Since a lot of people are posting pics of their cats, I thought I would start a thread for dog lovers to post pics of their dogs(mainly because dogs are cooler). This is a picture of my yellow lab who weighs 99 pounds and is 4 years old. His name is Mac. He just got done hunting in the pic and he’s a little whupped.
Good doggie. Nice to see dogs being used properly, they truly do love that work.
I love dogs. My dads dog looks just like that except on steroids. Biggest dog ive ever seen. Im going to see him tomorrow.
My beast.
Who cares? A bear could beat up any of your dogs.
I hunted w/ a Yellow Lab all while growing up. Then I had a Chesapeake Bay Retriever/Lab mix which was nice 'cause it was a lot tougher than a stock lab. Next up is a pure bred Chesapeake, 'cause IMHO they are the Humvee of hunting dogs. Might have to give it a little “help” too, to make it the biggest, strongest, ass-kicking-est dog ever.
Dogs are cool. Dogs eat cats.
The Husky is mine, the Boxer is my roomates.
Warhorse,
I don’t know much about Chesapeake retrievers, but I have to say that my dog is one tough SOB. When he was a few months old, he was jumping off of 7-8 foot piers to fetch dummies. He also started swimming under water when he was a young pup. I have a swimming pool in my back yard and he goes all the way under in the 9 foot deep end to fetch stuff. Nothing seems to bother him. This last hunting season he fetched 12 geese and 18 ducks in one hunt and 37 geese the following day and he was still ready to go. I’m going to try to post some pics of him swimming under water later today or tommorrow.
Here’s my dog Jell-O. He’s half Am-staff, half lab.
Hey don’t get me wrong, labs are cool.
I’m just going from what I’ve seen goose hunting on the Great Lakes with 4 foot waves and ice in November. 2 labs I was with wouldn’t go in, my Chessie blend went right out, chased down a wounded goose, killed it, and brought it back.
As far as labs and bears, my father was out in Colorado a few weeks ago on a camping trip and a black bear came strolling into camp. His lab caught wind of it (she is an asskicker!) Before he could grab her she went berserk - snarling and slavering - chasing after the bear. The bear turned tail and ran with the dog in hot pursuit. It ended with the bear climbing a tree.
Attitude is everything.
Oh, and yeah, let’s see your little kitty cats do that catpeople!
My cat would fuck a dog up warhorse. dont sing it bring it. 5 oclock. big oak tree by the school.
Labs can be funny about what they will and won’t do. Mine won’t go into clear, still water. It has to be mucky and slimely before she’ll do it. She’ll only go as far as the first step in a swimming pool and then only to kneel down and cool off. She also won’t climb the spiral staircase in my house. (I’ve read that it’s because some dogs don’t like the open treads. They don’t trust the stairs because they can see through the backs of them.)
Our pitbull mix doesn’t have these problems, but she’s so protective of my wife that she won’t let her go into a pool. She always has to drive in and try to pull my wife out. No, no one taught her that. She also has to be wrapped up in a blanket (with the blanket over her head) from late fall through early spring and be lying as close to my wife as possible. She’ll paw at you until you cover her up. Never had another dog that did that.
JimMcD – Had a black lab with similar habits, but for her it was still water vs moving water. Had no trouble wding through streams and rivers (often WAY over her head in depth), but was an absolute pansy about wading into a lake (murky or not).
Goldberg:
I don’t think there is a rule. There are cats that can hold their own, certainly, but I can’t imagine a housecat chasing off a bear.
Furthermore, I’ve heard plenty of stories of dogs that liked to kill cats, but none of cats that liked to kill dogs.
Whatever, see you by the tree.
I’ve got a husky and a husky shepherd mix.
I feel your pain.
This is my American Bulldog/Pit Bull Ruby.
Until recently, she was owned by my cat Mordred. He used to stalk her around the house and leap out from behind doors and wrap his legs around her neck, dig his claws in and chew her ears. I am NOT kidding.
Go ahead, tell me my dog is a sissy, then come over and try to come in my house…
grin
Warhorse: I never hunted in Ice with my dog so I couldn’t tell you how he would handle it. If it gets too cold down here(in the 30’s), I usually leave him at home. I know, damn southern pussies. Keep in mind that we have a boat ride doing 35-45 mile p/h for at least 10-15 minutes. Plus us southerns can’t stand the cold.
brider and Jim McD: I never had that problem with my lab but I also introduced him to water when he was 9-10 weeks old.
here’s my dog a bullmastiff
I thought I better chime in for the dog people, as it seems the cat people are ahead.
This is Zeke, he is 1/2 German Shepherd and 1/2 Rottweiler. He is almost 8 years old and I’ve had him since he was 8 weeks.
Here’s one of me and my dog after another hunting trip. That’s pretty much the only pictures I have of my dog.
On a side note. Does anyone have any experiences with rotweillers. I’ve always wanted one but don’t know many people who have one.
