Wisdom teeth

So I’m getting my wisdom teeth pulled out over the holidays. Has anyone had this procedure performed before? If so some insight would be nice, and also how soon can you eat afterwards?

Hey I had mine out 2 years ago (I was 16) and well lets just say my teeth were hard to get out. I would say I had one of the worse situations. All four of my teeth were impounded so I could not eat regular food for a month. BUT my sister had hers out and was eating fine a week later. It all depends on how the teeth are in the jaw etc. Most of my friends were in and out no problem and were back eating regular food within a week. Good luck it. Haha rember to take photos after you get them out. I looked like a fucking chipmunk

i dunno, but this dude i worked with had his pulled. he was in PAIN the next day, and he had to leave early. i didn’t ask questions cause he was messed up and i didn’t want to bother him. some people deal with it better than others. dunno what my point is, really.

A week? _hit, I was hoping I would be back to normal in a couple hours after the surgery. Oh well i’m gonna tough it out, and force the food down. Hopefully I will be able to eat normally and get my daily quotas in.

does everyone get them pulled or…

I ate fine the next day.

oh, and DO NOT FORCE FOOD DOWN. You don’t want to open your cavities left from your wisdom teeth nor do you want to get food stuck there. It will just severely delay the healing process

impounded?..cars get impounded, wisdom teeth are impacted… just my .02 peso’s

had mine out over the summer, but mine were erupted, so they just pulled them, no stitches but i was still put to sleep for it. ate regular food the next day, got drunk 2 nites later, and was back in the gym 4 days after the procedure. and you get some sweet sweet meds for afterwards

I was out of commission for a good week and looked like a chipmunk the entire time. I was probably worst case scenario as I know some people who were doing fine the next day.

I had the worst situation and best at the same time.

The Good…
The bleeding stopped before I left the dentist’s office (I didn’t go to a dental surgeon…just my dentist.), and I didn’t even need tynenol 3s afterward (even though I was prescribed them). I could eat solid foods (with care) by the next day.

The Bad…
Since I’m not very susceptible to anesthetics, I required a total of 11 shots to numb me (7 at first, and then 4 more mid-way through since it started to wear off).

The Ugly…
My bottom two wisdom teeth had roots with 90 degree angles in them. And during their removal the roots broke. It took a total of 4 hrs and every tool in the dentists drawer to remove them. The anethetics wore off part way through and I went over a 1/2 hr without any anethetics with my dentist digging in my gums for my roots. Finally when HE needed a break I got the chance to ask for more.

Ok, all this may sound terrible, but I was a pretty rare case. Shit like that can happen and there’s nothing you can do. It was still much much better than the pain of the teeth splitting through my gums. And besides, now since there’s more room for the rest of my teeth, I don’t find the other teeth as sore as they used to be. Also, while being in the chair was bad, I healed up faster than anyone I know that had it done also…and was back to normal within 2 days (still had to take care, but generally my jaw was not sore, and the swelling was next to none.)

Best of Luck…hopefully for you it’s IN and OUT (and if it’s a hot dentist IN and OUT and IN and OUT and IN and OUT and…)

You’ll be fine. Don’t get dry sockets. If you smoke or create a vacuum in your mouth for a day or two after you have them removed.

It’s easy, and I wouldn’t worry too much about them. One of my wisdom teeth were impacted as well, he broke it into chunks and removed it. I did get a dry socket which hurt like a SOB! However, pain meds and packing it gauze soaked with some weird oil seemed to help.

You’ll be fine. Don’t worry about it too much.

i had all four of mine removed the day before thanksgiving a couple years ago with only a local finished with a shot of demerol to prevent swelling and pain. i had my usual full plate, just had to chew a little foreward is all.

I had mine done last year when I was 22. I had no pain at all. I could talk right after and even eat solid food the night of the operation.
For me it was no big deal at all.
The only problem was when I came out of sedation I freaked out and started swearing and threatening all the doctors and nurses.
At the time it was funny. Looking back its even funnier.

Yeah, I opted for no general anesthetic. I’m not a big fan of it personally, however, they did knock me out for my ankle surgery. It was that or an epidural, which would have left me temporarily paralyzed for a few hours.

I was talking some funny shit when I woke up from my general anesthestic too.

I had mine done 4 years ago. They were all visible but were growing in kinda crooked. They were all pullable and the whole thing took about 40 minutes. The pain lasted overnight. I had some pain killers to help me sleep and by morning I was fine. Just be careful with food getting in the holes where the teeth were.

What, you’ve never had your car “impacted” peewee?

Don’t worry, josher, it’s a piece of cake. Eat/drink soup for a day and then soft food for the next few.

If that’s the most complicated surgery you’ll have in your life, consider yourself lucky…

i had all 4 pulled at once. spitting blood for a day. took me about 3 days to eat normal food. mostly mrps the first 2-3 days. the worst thing is having food stuck in the holes. u have to use this thing to squirt it out after every meal. can leave a bad taste in your mouth if u miss some of it.

Ok I think I got a plan now. I didn’t realize that it could affect your eating habits quite that badly. I’m basically going to stay up really late the night before surgery, eat, eat some more, and then go to bed 6 hours before i’m scheduled to go in since I have to fast for 6 hours for the general anesthesia (sp?). That way I can basically sleep, wake for the drive there, then go under and wake up again without having starved myself. Hopefully I’ll be able to eat upon wakening with some MRP’s near by.
I had a contusion on my left kidney from playing basketball before where I was pissing out litres of blood. Unfournately I couldn’t eat for ~ 24hours, and I felt like a skinny bastard for the next week. I even ate a cookie afterwards. I hate fasting is my point I guess.

I think you need to relax. Sure eating is important, but three or four days of your life isn’t going to make that big a deal. Just get the surgery done and see how it goes. If you need more or less time off take it.

Just don’t go to the gym until your sockets start to heal up really well or you can pop out any blood clots and start to bleed again and that just slows down healing even more.
