Monkeyfist is one of their better IPAs. Pumpkinhead is an okay pumpkin beer

Yea, I don’t like either of those … there are better, mediocre IPAs that are available and their Pumpkin head is middle of the pack. They’re not bad by any means, but people around here LOOOVE them … I think they get more credit around here than they deserve is my point.

But then again, people like what they like so…

I hate IPAs. Never been a fan of drinking perfume.

I would agree. To me, those are their best beers, and they’re still somewhere in the middle of the pack.

That is hard to beat.

Bourbon: Maker’s or Woodford Reserve (great for old fashioned or manhattans)
American Whiskey: anything from Corsair (small distillery in KY, look for black and white label. All their whiskeys are good; the triple smoke is the best)
Scotch: Macallan or Abelour if you like smooth caramel whiskey, Laphroaig or Lavagulin if you like a little smoke flavor

Beer: anything stout, sours and IPAs suck.
Go to stouts: Left Hand Milk Stout, New Holland Dragon’s Milk, Guinness
Rarer finds: Perennial Abraxas (sells out in minutes), 4 Hands Absence of Light, Destihl Dos Vadanya

Wine: not picky, prefer reds

Yep. I think I started one myself.

Booze thread, that is.

I don’t drink wine but I love a lot of different beers and spirits.

My go to beers are lagers and bright lagers. Mostly Aussie brands like XXXX, Great Northern and Carlton Dry. I enjoy stouts through winter, namely Guinness. I also indulge in crafty ales from time to time. Little Creatures Brewery in Fremantle does a really nice ale and pilsner.

I could drink scotch and whisky all day. JD, Jameson, JW Black and Chivas Regal are my most drank.

I’m a big bourbon drinker as well. I used to love Jimmy but lately I’ve been hitting the Wild Turkey and Makers Mark a lot more.

The Jamaican Rum ‘Appleton Estate’ is another decent drop and about the only dark rum I enjoy.

I had a meeting in my old city and decided to drop by my old yuppy bar. Rather than my usual sour, they offered me this. It’s quite good on the rocks. I just ordered a bottle.

Ever try Old Rasputin by North Coast Brewing? That and Blackout Stout by Great Lakes are my two favorite stouts.

I had this for the first time Saturday night. It was pretty good. I would say on par with the Knob Creek I’ve had, but not quite as good as Elijah Craig.

Old Rasputin and Blackout are both very tasty. I pick up a few bottles every once in a while.

This is batch #2 of the 2017 wild blackberry wine, leftover from racking.

About 10 years ago my stomach turned against beer, can’t drink it at all. Have turned to cider and wine and sometimes wine making.

Re: Woodford Reserve, the Distiller’s Select is good but their “Double Oaked” bourbon is noticeably better. It’s also more expensive, but I’m not a heavy bourbon drinker so I’ll pay for it since I only need a bottle every few months

As a personal aside, I toured the distillery during a friend’s bachelor party and it was a quality outing. Recommend it should you get the chance to travel to or through that part of the country.

Woodford Reserve and Maker’s Mark have the best distillery tours on the Bourbon Trail. Good call on the double oaked version of Woodford; I had completely forgotten about it.

Beer: Typically pale beer, some porters, I enjoy a local brewery’s honey porter (IBU is something like 22, ha)

Trying to turn myself into a whiskey guy…semi successful…still butchering it on the rocks haha at the moment my preferred whiskey is Wyoming Whiskey, haven’t had anything truly upper end at the moment, so hard to compare, but for the run of the mill types (Maker’s, WW, JD, and so on and so forth) I prefer the Wyoming Whiskey. Shop local, ha!

I try to steer away from things you might see a hobo drinking, but most everything else sits just fine with me. I’ll usually chose a small batch bourbon or Tito’s vodka. I used to like Jack Daniels but the price has been jacked up to nearly $30 a bottle. For that much I’ll jump up to a decent bourbon.

Hudson Baby Bourbon. Aged in smaller (baby) barrels, this bourbon has more surface area in contact with the barrels, giving it a richer taste than other whiskey aged for the same amount of time. At a price of $35-50, you don’t have to feel bad about making cocktails with it or putting it on the rocks (although you should invest in some whiskey stones).

Stumbled on a six pack of Bitches Brew Stout by Dogfishhead this past weekend. Great stuff, but pretty damn expensive ($18.99 for 6). Also tried out Lenin’s Revenge (Russian Imperial Stout) by Buffalo Bayou (local Houston brewery) that was pretty awesome.

Sometimes when I’ve gone with expensive stuff, it’s been well worth it and others, I’ve been disappointed. There are a few fancy ones that I’ve been eyeing lately because they sound delicious, but just can’t justify spending 30 bucks for a six-pack.
