Now that considering their preferred method of preparing for a show is going up the stairmill for 60 minutes (roughly 200 floors) 4-5x a week, I’d say that they can go up stairs just fine ;).
P.S - The stairmill is fucking difficult.
Ronnie Coleman does this for HOURS without getting winded and he was 300 fucking pounds.
Ronnie must not be human. How many HOURS does he do this in a row? Are you claiming 2-3 hours in a row or just 60 minutes? And if he’s not getting “winded” doing this for even 60 minutes straight then he must be keeping his heart rate below about 110bpm which would be some really slow ass stair climbing. hahaha.

Bodybuilding is not a sport in the classic sense of the word but in the new age definition it is. Any physical activity with standard rules and a competitive aspect is technically a sport. I’m not exactly sure how standard bodybuilding’s rules are though. It seems that there is a relatively high subjectivity involved plus the supposed political aspect.
Bodybuilding is also not inherently athletic. There are athletic bodybuilders but the “sport” itself does not require a high level of athleticism. I realize that people associate muscle with athleticism and so bodybuilding lends itself to people thinking that it is an athletic event.
My personal opinion is that “bodybuilding” is more of a mental condition than a “sport”. lol
That being said, I would much rather ESPN show the Olympia and Arnold events than poker every night and bowling, pool, and darts.
This post is retarted.
Bodybuilding itself is very athletic. What the fuck do you call bench pressing 4-500lbs for reps on a weekly basis and overall moving thousands of pounds a week? While the contest is important to those competing, the real work was put in for YEARS in the gym and not only requires athleticism, but it requires better genetics for muscle growth and even strength than any average person will ever see in a life time.
Those of you in this forum writing like this have clearly never even watched some of these guys train and damn sure haven’t actually been around any of these guys for an extended period of time.
Why post in the bodybuilding forum if you have no interest there?
A football player would still be an athlete even if he never played in the actual game assuming he TRAINED for it anyway. Any fool arguing that bodybuilding is somehow different doesn’t have it all. COMPETITION may be up for debate but the act of bodybuilding is not especially when talking about the extremes these guys reach.
When has Olympia EVER been broadcast on National Television. EPSN doesn’t even tell you when World’s Strongest Man comes on.
Last time I saw a bodybuilding event was on FSN. And that was a Ms. Fitness contest.

In the 90’s. That was when I first saw Dorian Yates on stage…and also the first time I saw someone shake their quad until it looked like jell-o and then flex it until it looked like he had 100lbs of muscle on each leg.
ESPN didn’t use to be the douche network it apparently is today.
I’m going to the show bitches!
Actually the show is not that entertaining, but the expo is the shit! Tons of free supps, t-shirts, gorgeous women and the competitors…

That’s a bunch of bullshit. These are some of the best athletes in the world, with the best physique’s in the world. Beyond that, steroids is common in just about every main sport out there.
Where can I watch it online? Though I wish I didn’t have to sacrifice quality.
BEST ATHLETES IN THE WORLD?
why because they are willing to take 100K of GEAR A YEAR?
Most (If not all of these guys couldn’t even run a mile, or 2 100 yd dashes for that matter).
steroids are not the FOUNDATION IN PRO SPORTS< they are used like icing on the cake.
PRO BODY BUILDINGING FOUNDATION IS STEROIDS. big difference.
I regularly workout at VENice gold’s
you can hear the labored breathing of your best athletes in the world. as they cant walk up the stairs.

ESPN is basically becoming “Access Hollywood” for sports. They’re not well rounded in the sports they cover and the programming is become more and more shallow.
I just hope the Olympia events can survive another 20 years. I would like to attend one.

Why are you coming into the Bodybuilding thread and shitting on bodybuilding? This is a bodybuilding site. This site was created to further the pursuit of muscle.

What is the extent of your AAS cycle history?
LOL now the argument that pro bodybuilders have no conditioning whatsoever is that they breathe heavily during their workouts?
It’s amazing how inadequate some people feel that they have to come up with such ridiculous arguments.
omg I just saw he proposed that pro’s take 100k worth of gear a year HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
In my neck of the woods you could buy 17000 ml’s of test for that much money, do you have any idea how much that is?
Ridethelightning is officially the dumbest person I’ve ever encountered in an argument like this
x2
yeah

I hate to use the same response twice in such a time frame, but seriously, just because Shugart wrote it(in an article that I’ve seen linked a decent amount recently, which I find to be no small coincidence with these posts) does not make it true.
Do you just turn a blind eye while they do their cardio? Do you ignore the biological impact that lifting weights in moderate->high rep ranges has on body in terms of blood and respiratory flow?
I see the light now, Ronnie was breathing hard because he’s out of shape in his Redemption video, not because he had just walking lunged half a mile with 135 on his back.
Some responses in this thread explain exactly why the O isn’t on TV.
There are people in here bashing bodybuilding. These people have gone out of their way to go on the internet and type in this site’s address and then make their way to the BB forum.
Imagine the reaction of people if they were channel surfing and came across the Mr O final callouts? People would be appalled.
Imagine it was Taylor Hooton’s dad. That guy would have a heart attack on the spot and on the way to the hospital he’d be blaming steroids for his own heart attack. And there are plenty other’s like him out there.
Yeah it’s a shame.
It’s a sport. Fuck.
Well of course many of the people on this forum are going to repute the idea that bodybuilding isn’t a sport. These are the bodybuilders enthusiasts and fanatics and god bless 'em. However it is a biased argument.
I mean if the majority of the public doesn’t think its a sport then by virtue it shouldn’t be labeled a sport. By definition bodybuilding is a sport. But comparing it to other sports it just doesn’t have those almost intrinsic attributes associated with the pool.

The majority of the public thinks anyone over 220lbs has to be on steroids. Since when do we base the definition of a sport on what most people think?
Further, why the fuck is this even a discussion on a bodybuilding forum? If you don’t think it is a sport, keep it to yourself and quit telling us about it because I doubt anyone gives a flying shit about what you think.
