Have you ever tried to forecast a max lift on a set or 8 reps?
If so, how did it pan out? My experience has been, not too well.

You do make a very good point, I think with reps over 3 it becomes harder to predict. But I considered that I have done 555 and I know I can’t do 80% of that for 8 reps.

wow… im speechless.[/quote]
I think he just turned 22 and was 21 when he broke the record the first time.
I suspect that after he breaks 1000 though, he will probably go on to something with more money in it like strongman.

Bolton pulled 971 at this year’s Arnold. It’s the current record and he was wearing a METAL pro-deadlifter. This was after 6 lifts with max weights…Fucking amazing.
Bene held the former record of 970 wearing an Inzer MaxDL. Bene also only DL’s in a meet. That means doesn’t have to spend any energy on 3 squats and 3 benches. Not even token lifts.
I don’t care who pulls it first, I will be much more impressed with Bolton’s full meet 1000lb DL.

Bolton’s much more impressive. It’s hard to understand how much 6 max lifts takes out of you before you even try to Deadlift.
Andy’s now pulling in a Inzer DL suit. And that’s what he’ll be wearing when he smashes 1000 in november.
As far as I know Bolton pulled the old record (940~) in just a SINGLET!!
And also keep in mind for everyone who siad about Benny pulling 900 so young… Andy pulled 870+ at 23.
As mentioned, Andy pulls in a Max DL. Benni pulls in Metal. Andy says he’s getting ~50lbs out of his suit. Kind of fits, as he pulled the old WR (932) in a singlet.
I personally thought Bolton’s attempt at 1000 was better than Benni’s, but that matters none as they were both misses and it all comes down to getting through the sticking point for these guys.
Bolton pulled his ~970 in a full meet. Benni pulled his after tokens. Obviously Bolton’s performance is more impressive.
Remember that “potential” is French for “currently sucks”, so talking about what someone will or will not pull is moot. They both could do it within the next year, but time will tell.

As I understand it Benni’s heart seems to be in strongman so we might not even see him reach his full deadlift “potential”.

Hadn’t heard that before - very good!
I competed about 20-25 years ago before anyone was using bench shirts or DL suits. Most of us squatted in the Marathon supersuit. Since the advent of the advanced gear benches have gone from about 660 (kaz) to 1000 and squats from 1000 to 1200 while DLs have gone from what 940 to 970. Makes sense that the DL suit is worth 50 lbs for the big lfiters - not much compared to the other lifts.
I like that about the DL - it is much more about raw strength than gear (or even technique). I hope Bolton and the guy from Iceland both get 1000 - that is an incredible benchmark and a true measure of strength.
