Wild Iron Gym Video Q&A

The sudden lack of beard saddens me. Other than that, great videos.

Here’s the rest. The upload finally took on the third try.

I know this is old but at the end he says “the research shows that after 3 weeks you don’t get faster, you don’t get stronger…”

What research shows this? I don’t understand how it could say people just won’t get stronger/faster/etc. after 3 weeks.

Louie talks about it in one of his articles. They used to do 5-week waves. Now everything is 3-week waves.

Do you know which article? Again, I’m not saying they made it up or something but how can they say people don’t get stronger after 3 weeks? There are tons of people who don’t deload for much longer than that and continue to get stronger so I’m kind of confused by that statement.

“Why do we start again after 3 weeks? We found that after 3 weeks, one cannot become faster or stronger. That is exactly why a 3-week wave
is used. Dr. Mel Siff informed me that Vasily Alexeev used a similar wave system for his remarkable training. Remember, he was a weight
lifter and used no gear. It worked because he physically got stronger.”

It’s more about how to periodize your training. In theory, you could do a 5-week wave of 50%, 52.5%, 55%, 57.5%, and 60%. They found that after the third week they weren’t getting better. So now it’s 50%, 55%, 60%, and then back down to 50%.

Is that 50, 55, 60% free weight then add bands, or do you calculate how much the weight will be at the bottom?

It’s a % free weight. The band tension at the top should be ~25% of your max. The other key is the bands need to be under tension in the hole. The band tension in the hole is usually ~60% of what it is at the top. You have to remember the percentages are for geared lifters that are only wearing briefs though. Raw lifters can usually go 5-10% a higher on the free weight. The real key is to make sure you’re moving fast but not sloppy.

Personally, I don’t pay attention to what % I use. Usually whoever is closest to a meet picks a bar and a contrast. Everyone else picks a weight that can be loaded with 45’s and 25’s. That makes it easy to load and keeps the rotation moving.

Bench is 40-50% and some people go even lower than that.

I guess I really don’t know much about powerlifting. Is that DE work or something? Since %'s are so low…

I guess it’s just really different than typical/“bodybuilding” training where people try to increase by a rep or something each time and then when they get to the top of a range they add weight…this goes on for much longer than 3 weeks.

It’s entirely different.
