Why Would Someone NOT Get Bigger?

OK, now that we have gotten it out the way that the 80’s had far more stand out well developed people in pop culture than we do today by far (something we obviously simply HAD to prove because clearly hair bands were the only thing going on between 1980-89), how about we get back on topic and/or ignore the troll?[/quote]

The OP’s question was answered by you and others a long time ago. The question of if the 10’ers are already worst than the 09’ers is still to be determined.

As far as the hair band argument goes, that was not the norm. In the late 80’s and 90’s guys in NJ (Bon Jovi capital) high schools didn’t wear make up and try to look like Vince Neil, the girls did. It wasn’t until recently that guys started wearing eyeliner to “make their eyes pop”. In Jersey the guys I looked up to used to strive to be the HUGEST (and they were) not to try and get abs. My brother is 5 years older than me (38 now). I see guys from his class and they’re still the big motherfuckers. Now it’s the opposite.

I have never been so much as interested in getting bigger than I have in simply being athletic; speed, power, agility, et al.

It is funny that this is usually spoken by people who never actually achieve ANY of those to any significant degree.

Unless you are now an elite athlete, I would say you are either not very serious, you are a rank beginner, or you have simply wasted your time.

You see, in bodybuilding and even power lifting, it is very easy to see who is serious and who isn’t if they have been doing it for a while…either that or they don’t have the genetics for it at all.

In someone with a goal of “being athletic”, there are no quantitative lines of measurement for success…meaning you never have to have any success to claim victory.

What a cheat.

If I went into a forum dedicated to athleticism, speed and agility and posted about how those qualities didn’t mean shit to me compared to how bigger I became would you think of me as an idiot?

Or are you a hypopcrite?

I think you both have my comment confused for something else (especially the general assumption from The Professor.)

You’re suggesting unless one is a professional athlete, there is no measurement for success? Really ? Could not the same be made for any area of fitness ?

I also did not suggest they meant nothing to me, only my personal preference in re: to the topic (Getting bigger). I completely respect anyone’s own personal and specific goals, whether getting bigger, getting stronger or faster, etc.

Calm down guys.

My own personal measurement of success is as simple as how I look and feel when playing baseball with my kid, basketball with the 20 year olds, running a 10k every year (San Diego’s Mud Run), hiking and climbing 6 to 10 Miles and on and on.

I believe 100% in strength training for life, but don’t take it personal is someone isn’t concerned with getting huge.

If you are interested in athleticism, speed, power, and wanna poo-poo getting bigger, which is an INTEGRAL part of bodyBUILDING, why are you in a BODYBUILDING forum? for real. There are a shitload of other forums that have people with similar goals, so why do you guys even come to this specific forum in the first place?

Dude, how the fuck do you measure your “athleticism”? Can we see how you measure it and all of the progress you’ve made since you started? Please list how you have improved SPECIFICALLY.

See, I know I’ve managed to gain close to 100lbs of lean body mass. I can see it. I can measure it. And all of it shows that I must have been really fucking serious about weight lifting to make that kind of progress.

How serious are you and how could anyone else get a quantitative measure of it?

Of course you aren’t serious. Few people with those goals are. You make arbitrary goals with no finish line because it takes away the responsibility of actually achieving anything worth discussing.

Further, why the fuck are you in the forum?

Thanks. Just started gaining weight and strength again after a few frustrating months of stagnating.
